Then when you phoned it (at £1.50 a minute), you were told you weren't successful and you got kicked off the line.

One from Tyne Tees which was a snooker based game show; Pick Pockets, hosted by Tom O Connor.

Not a bad show that. Was it networked? I have no recollection of it at all.

CiTV's Scary Sleepover from 2004, aka scaring the crap out of a bunch of kids via special effects. Survive the night to win a sleepover at Alton Towers:

The revived Basil Brush show from 2002 - Basil's jokes weren't any better but the writing of the show was actually quite good and often satirical of other things and itself. Then Series 5 came along and, oh well, it was good while it lasted. Bradley Walsh guest appears in an episode from Series 2:

CBBC aired the Lockie Leonard series (based on the books) from Australia (initially as an insert in TMi before being relegated to the CBBC Channel):

The Basil Brush Show is far from obscure. Basil's appearances across the Beeb increased tenfold because of it and the show ran on mornings and afternoons.

Pick Pockets, so obscure it doesn't appear on UKGameshows.co.uk!

He appeared in several episodes of the 2004 series of French and Saunders I seem to remember. Always credited as "himself".

Tradition apparently. Ivan Owen, voice artist of the original Basil Brush, went to great lengths to distance himself from the puppet to keep it "real". This was maintained to a extent in the revival and the post Basil Brush Show appearances. I think I'm right in saying he won a charity episode of Weakest Link too.

Given the obscurity of Pick Pockets, I reckon there's a chance that it's a pilot that somehow made it's way onto YouTube.

Interesting show though, takes quite a few elements that made their way onto Big Break and i would say it might have been tweaked into that, yet doesn't seem to share any of the production team at all.

I'm pretty sure the programme was shown locally on Tyne Tees only in 1988. Six programmes over the summer I seem to recall, possibly as a pilot series intended for eventual sale to network. TTTV made a number of such shows around this time, game shows in particular. Interestingly there doesn't seem to be any record of the show online but then the original TTTV version of 'A Word In Your Ear' is unknown to the historians and that ran for 2 years/20-odd episodes...

I have a definite recollection of thinking BB was a rip off when it appeared on BBC1.

It was definitely not intended for network, as they've used a very clean burned-in ident (continuity would have been much more scratchy/'wobbly' if done live), and as it's 1988 this is after network stopped using them at the start of programmes.

As for the production team they were mostly (if not all, there's only two or three names I don't recognise) regular Tyne Tees staffers; any transfer of IP would be unlikely to involve them.
