Didn't Stake Out feature an appearance from Mark "The Beast" Labbett in an early TV outing?

Apparently so. But I don't recall seeing it. Then again, I watched it before The Chase existed. So wouldn't have noticed.

Stake Out did lead to a bit of regulation trouble. The original concept was that the contestants were supposed to have provided the original stake money from their pockets themselves.

That would be classed as effectively gambling - which was frowned upon in an entertainment programme - so after a quick reworking of the rules of entry, the production company ended up forking out for the stake money instead.

Who remembers "Steal", made by Central Television, with Mark Walker (son of Roy), as the host? It featured Jewels the Cat as well.

Only one series was ever made by Central.

I remember a game show Happy Families with Andrew O’Connor and Sarah Greene where the grans of the family were suspended higher and higher - resulting in the catchphrase “ Crank up your granny! “.
Don’t remember much more than that except for pre launch negative publicity due to the injuries a couple of the grannies sustained!

Couple of things for memories hopefully Smile

Disney's Talespin, aired on ITV IIRC possibly as part of the Disney Club? Thinly-disguised reusing of key Jungle Book characters with a few original creations. Later apparently suffered from "censored on the air but uncensored on the DVD" syndrome.

CBBC's successful adaption of Dick King-Smith's novel The Queen's Nose, ultimately racked up seven series but eventually drifted away from the book:

One of two prominent 80s cartoon cats, here's Heathcliff. Heathcliff ran for many episodes but I can't remember whether he appeared on CBBC or CITV over here, I think it was the latter?

The other 80s cat was of course Garfield, still running in his comic strip today best part of 40 years later.

Think it was BBC before going live or live and kicking?

Yeah I should have Genomed it first in all honesty before posting. CBBC aired both Heathcliff (as above, the later cartoon called Heathcliff & Co) and the original Heathcliff cartoon (Heathcliff and Marmaduke from 1980).

Heathcliff and Marmaduke, according to Genome, was still on CBBC as late as 2000. The later cartoon was last seen on CBBC One November 1991 and had been around for five years or so in many CBBC strands.

How many people remember Incredible Games from Children's BBC?

If I think rightly these days you could call it The Crystal Maze set in a skyscraper / tower.

The only game I seem to know was one that was I think chess related as it had a 'Knight' trying to eliminate the contestants.

Incredible Games was a mammoth production I remember - enormous sets. With David Walliams as a lift that only worked when you tap-danced like in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Quite a lot of 90s shows were heavily inspired by Boyard/Crystal and later in the decade came Jungle Run, which the producers admitted was a blatant rip-off of Crystal Maze in new packaging. Later tainted somewhat by the production of Naked Jungle, a show Keith Chegwin now regrets doing. It used the same set as the children's show.

This was also used previously on Knightmare as a "room" and it was later rehashed as a "game" (or "challenge" I suppose) on Raven, itself being a prime demonstration of what one can do on a limited budget.

Incredible Games also used the well remembered Alphabet Soup game - "shrink" the kids and go swimming for letters.
