It wasn't them, it was another band... a quick look on google shows it was the Thrashing Doves.

On the very first edition of Saturday Superstore, Mike Reid was surprised when Elton John called in from Los Angeles, at about 3am LA time!

Although he says that on Multicoloured Saturdays, it was actually the opening episode of a later series, as the set and graphics illustrate. Although he certainly wasn't alone in phoning up Saturday morning shows, there's a clip on YouTube of Paul McCartney phoning up Paul Simon on Going Live.

If you would like a fully annotated article of all the inconsistencies in Multicoloured Saturdays, please send an SAE.

Eerie Indiana, a show from 1991/2 that once discovered I just couldn't get enough of. This is the "Reality Takes A Holiday" episode, probably one of the more surreal pieces of fiction I've ever seen (especially by this show's standards).

It still saddens me that this only ran for 19 episodes. I don't think it was originally a kids show though it ended up on Fox Kids at some point apparently, and on Channel 4 over here. I remember it airing as part of Big Breakfast, probably the Bigger Breakfast strand (with MASSIVE clock strap to boot as well!)

It was shown on Channel 4 quite a bit in the 90s- along with the "other dimension" spin-off later in the decade.

I can remember that episode you linked to quite well too! Probably haven't seen it in 20 years.

it was the sort of show that Channel 4 themselves may have commissioned, that off-beat quirky style that the main networks here didn't care much for. Very similar actually to the Australian show Round The Twist which was similarly surreal but had a much lighter tone to it and a kick-ass theme tune too. Apparently broke the mould for children's TV in Australia did that.

Two more series with an educational slant...

I have vague memories of " Sorry Mate I Didn't See You ", which I think was about motorcycle safety. Think it had a Saturday 9am ish slot on BBC One slot where they used to show things like " Swim " and " Play Tennis ".

Fred Harris' " Make it Count " is well remembered mainly due to repeats on Channel Four, but I'm sure there was a follow up, also repeated on Four called " Numbers At Work ".

A soap that seems to have been " forgotten in time " is ITV's Night and Day. To be fair, it was a different sort of soap to an certain extent. I think if it had been on Channel 4 or some sold as a drama, it might have faired better. Good theme tune by Kylie too.

( There was an also a more " racey " late night omnibus type episode during the run. )

The omnibus/late night version fared better and lasted longer than its teatime showing.

Agree though it should have been put on Channel 4 and not teatime ITV, but they were trying something new, I believe it was going to be called Trafalgar Road originally.

Apparently problems were evident at Trafalgar Road long before it hit the screen when some of the production team were lured to the BBC and ITV couldn't decide whether it was going to air it three or five times weekly:

I suspect ITV lost faith in it - wasn't it considered a replacement to Home & Away after Channel 5 pinched it? It turned up months after it was commissioned and ultimately ended up timesharing with the revived Crossroads at teatime IIRC. For all the noise made by ITV at the time about both shows, neither of them lasted long term - N&D disappeared off into late night TV while Crossroads was (fatally) relaunched and, well, just like N&D, either you liked it or you didn't. Neither show was ever seen or mentioned again.

there should have went with Shortland Street Wink that would have kept the midlands people happy.

Well Shortland Street appears to have lasted longest here in Central-land than it did in other regions I believe...

They still make it too.
