A trimmed episode of Name That Toon is here:

I don't think Mark Speight was was contracted to either the BBC or ITV as he quite often appeared on both networks - SMart ran for 14 years and had a few spin-offs on the BBC while on ITV he had the Saturday morning magazine of Scratchy & Co and some other stuff too.

Technically he was almost certainly contracted by both the BBC and ITV for the duration of the production periods of the shows he made for them.

However his contracts were likely not exclusive, and he was unlikely to have been under an overarching 'exclusive' contract deal to a specific broadcaster if we was working on shows for both broadcasters in the same periods.

Wow, I remember that now you've posted it! Poor Mark Speight, such a loss. Also, did colours seem to be a lot bolder and brasher in the 90s?

I'd be more inclined to argue it looks brasher because it's a VHS recording - bright colours never looked good on playback on VHS, they tend to bleed into each other.

WB got wind of the VHS and managed to created new stuff wrapped around old shorts:

* The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie
* The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie
* Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales
* Daffy duck's fantastic island

Glen Michael did the same but it was strange: Those cartoons were clearly copyright free...

Glen used to feature Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry on Cavalcade in the 80s at the very least too.

I'd completely forgotten about Toonatics, and pretty sure I didn't realise the same actor played the host in both series.

Have we had this yet?

It was huge at the time, and even created something of a catch phrase of "Strange but true" for something that was, well strange but true. Then it disappeared into the abyss.

I remember it, I also remember watching repeats on Granada Plus in the early 00s.

One for viewers in Wales, which lasted from the 1997-8 rugby union season until the 2000-1 rugby union season, The Front Row. It was their weekly highlights programme of Welsh Club rugby, with some live cup matches. The main live matches were shown on S4C. This was the four year period when HTV and S4C took the rights to Welsh club rugby. During the final season of the deal, HTV announced they were pulling out at the end of the season, and the rights, from 2001-2 reverted to BBC Wales and S4C, who still show it yet.

Short trailer on this video here for you. Notice that the website was for S4C's own rugby website. There was no actual HTV rugby website, or The Front Row website. Also note the graphics for the two teams, Bridgend and Llanelli. They used the team colours as identical graphics as those on S4C, as the coverage was produced for both by a production company called 10; it's surprising to note that HTV Wales didn't produce the coverage in house, nor did they go and produce S4C's coverage.

Spotted on YouTube, a CBBC show from 2010 that only lasted one series and seems to have been a tie-in with the British Museum. Apparently this was "hugely" popular at the time but has since faded into obscurity:

Not quite sure what this was trying to be in all honesty, Horrible Histories meets Raven?

Bruce's death yesterday reminded me of this cartoon that he used to narrate - Fiddley Foodle Bird.

Only one series was ever made with a continuing story throughout all 13 episodes. I remember it appearing in the BBC2 lunchtime slot where you'd get a mix of shows including Fireman Sam, PC Pinkerton, Stoppit and Tidyup, Joshua Jones, Juniper Jungle, Funnybones, King Rollo, Rupert (not the Canadian one), The Brollys and Forget Me Not Farm.

A brilliant series and wonderful narration of all voices in the programme by Brucie. I thought that my sister & I were the only ones to remember it. Glad to see that I was proven wrong.
