The spin off from Last of The Summer Wine, which portrayed the characters in their youth, just before the outbreak of WW2, "First of The Summer wine". Two series were made, but wasn't as popular. Peter Sallis, who played Clegg in Last of the summer wine, played his father in First of the summer wine.

Similarly there was Rock & Chips, the prequel to Only Fools and Horses, which was what the final Only Fools episode in 2003 (with the storyline about Rodney's real father) acted as a precursor to. Similarly it also only lasted a few series.

By a "few series", you mean 3 specials, and that was it. Though John Sullivan died a few days before the final one aired- I presume it would have continued had he lived.

Yes, I imagine it would've become a series of six episodes, possibly showing other characters along the way (i.e. Albert), with the final episode having Joan passing away (so we finally we what she told Del, if anything, on her deathbed) and then coming full circle to OFAH.

Could I add in Star Test? A very bizarre show on Ch4, where celebrities would be put questions by a disembodied voice over interviewer after choosing categories via a touchscreen apparently on glass between the interviewee and the camera.

Clip:

There's a Superb French and Saunders p*ss take of it with them playing Bros, but the bbc have blocked it on YouTube.

What about the Pink Panther? BBC used that as a filler for years and years and years When did the BBC stop showing it?

I think The Pink Panther is probably the antithesis of a forgotten classic.

I'm sure Pink Panther (or at least the variant with the live action pink car) was being aired on the BBC into the 90s. Genome unfortunately doesn't have any distinction between which era of Pink Panther was aired but suggests it was around in some form as late as 1999. I dunno if it airs anywhere now in this country.

Went out of vogue when the BBC decided Tom & Jerry should be the cartoon filler. Tom & Jerry was shown most Saturdays until about 1996 I think. Indeed infamously Tom & Jerry was used as an extra filler when Noel's House Party was cancelled due to the bomb scare in 1993.

Not forgotten but add Looney Toons to that conversation (though think they were the ITV equivalent) - back in the day when TV was much more fun than 10 minutes of Coast.

Didn't Disney cartoons pop up on ITV back in the day too?
