What was Raw Deal? Another gem from STV was What's your problem, the fore runner to Scottish action and Scottish Frontiers on health.

Also from STV, but not from Glasgow, was Scottish women, presented by Kay Adams. It was actually filmed in the Gaitey Studios in Edinburgh, on Leith walk.

She wasn't the first presenter. That goes to sheena mcdonald in 1988 as Votes for Women ( that was networked) before getting renamed Scottish woman in 1989 - 1992

Off-topic (or maybe not!) - the ITV News at 12.30 didn't last long at all, did it - barely six months it seems! Late August 1987 to 25 March 1988?

Another BBC children's programme that is rarely remembered is the computer robot Whizz. 13 episodes were made and shown from April 1985. This was the first programme that replaced Play School in the Friday afternoon slot, once it went to mornings only. As far as I can remember there was one repeat run in 1986. Kate Copstick played Whizz.

I wonder if anyone remembers the BBC showing the American children's series The Electric Company in the 70s? Produced by the Children's Television Workshop, it ran for six seasons in the USA and was a little bit like Sesame Street for slightly older children, featuring comedians like Bill Cosby in "sketch" scenes.

No, me neither. But it seems they did!

Had a look on BBC Genome and it seems that it was broadcast during the Schools and Colleges strand.

It's well before my time, but certainly certain members who have a VHS copy with tons of BBC1 Schools and Collegues continuity from the 70's will have the very end credits of this on one of the recordings. The theme tune was rather perky from memory.

Its well documented during the sage of Sesame street
Quote:
Sims and the BBC's decision engendered both praise and disappointment, and generated an investigation into the network's scheduling practices. The controversy also stalled development of a British co-production. In 1974, the BBC broadcast 13 episodes of The Electric Company, another CTW show, for an eight-week run.[8] Their rationale to air it was that the show was a part of a school curriculum, accompanied by back-up resources such as books. An independent assessment was conducted afterwards. With the BBC's refusal to air Sesame Street, the debate over its place on British TV passed to ITV.

It came back later on, not sure when but the ITN News at 12:30 was around in 1992. It stayed in that slot for many years renamed the ITN (then ITV) Lunchtime News.

I think it moved first to 12:30 in July 1987 the Monday after Leonard Parkin retired. (Clip maybe on YouTube, certainly used to be on MHP PP.)

My understanding is it became News at 12:30 as a result of the Gulf War, more so by accident, prior to that it was News at One, but the powers that be kept it at 12:30 once the war was over. I think in the early days it ran as late as 1:10, however by autumn 1993 and the introduction of the lunchtime Coronation Street repeats the bulletin was off air for 12:55.
