there was one on CiTV called "Out of Sight" ehich 2 lads had a spray bottle that made them disappear. I have never been able to find any clips of it though online.

Now that is almost forgotten. Three (possibly complete) series on VHS tape passed through my hands about 12 years ago but I didn't get round to digitising it. I can vaguely recall that one of the kids was represented by a different actor in the 2nd and 3rd series.

From a German airing but it is the programme you mention, Out Of Sight, recognise the title sequence (save for the added German)?

I remember there was a behind the scenes filler on CITV (I think this was during the non-live action continuity era and they had a lot of these) where they showed you how they'd make objects float and make the kids disappear and it didn't half ruin the illusion of the show!

What was that phone-in competition that featured a simple video game where the character was steered using the buttons on the phone keypad?

I can remember one episode where the player had a pulse dialling phone but the game required a DTMF phone, so what happened was that you could hear the clicking pulses when the buttons on the phone were pressed but the character did not move. Very embarrassing for the player.

Who remembers a sports show that ran for one season on Channel 5, 1997-8, called "Rugby Express"? Bringing it up, with the FTA rights for Premiership rugby reverting to Channel 5 for the forthcoming season.

They did it on Live and Kicking, might well have been used elsewhere.

I think one of the ITV Saturday morning shows had something similar.

The player having the wrong phone is a bit of a screw up by the production team surely? Not difficult to get them to press a key while lining up the call to check that they have the right phone?

Pretty sure CBBC did those games once or twice between programmes too. And maybe, if I'm not imagining it, possibly a programme on ITV used the same sort of thing too.

Mind you CBBC's Sunday morning "Sub Zero" programme tried to take the concept to a new level by mixing virtual reality and viewer participation - and managed to make a pigs ear of it. There was a video of it on YouTube but has since vanished.

In fairness to pulse tones, it was (and probably still is) possible for a lot of phones to switch between DTMF and pulse dialling via a switch on the phone, sometimes by accident if it was poor design. Pulse dialling is still an option I believe if you happen to have a rotary phone or even a DOND style Bakelite Smile

Mud , with early appearances of Russell Brand, Russell Tovey and Brooke Kinsella

There were two series of Mud. The first was set in an outdoor adventure centre, hence the name, and was relatively normal. Series two had a time-freezing evil granny trying to take over the world.... it was mental! It was repeated a fair bit in the nineties, especially in the movie format they made of lots of serials for the summer/Easter/Christmas holidays.
