Shows that people forget or get lost in time

Classic shows you remember, but the public might not (July 2017)

Was on BBC2, actually, because it was very sexually explicit. They actually referenced the cast change in the show, because the first episode with the second one involved a scene where they were watching Roseanne and saying how stupid they were to change an actor without even mentioning it.

It got a bit of publicity at the time because it was co-written by the very famous drama writer Andrew Davies, but I never liked it, it was all pretty charmless and the characters were pretty repellent. Where I Find My Heaven is a brilliant song, though, and I have fond memories of it, not least as it was the last record played on Radio 1 by my favourite ever DJ, the wonderful Kevin Greening.

I've just watched Series 2, Episode 1 and can't find the reference you mention.

I remember it. Think it was pre credits.

Ah yes, between the credits and (c).

Was that the first (and only) time a change of actor/actress was alluded to during a TV series? Don't recall it's ever been done before or since.

Also has there ever been any crossover of characters in shows? I seem to recall that only happening once with a character appearing in Footballers Wives and ending up in prison on Bad Girls?

Forget about shows that got lost in time - how about an entire channel?

Yeah so many channels from the early days of Sky Digital disappeared without a trace. Anyone remember Minaj Broadcast International? Was broadcast from Nigeria and was hilarious to watch Very Happy Can't seem to find anything online other than a logo..

I used to love whereits.at - it was amateur, shoddily-produced, but it was fun and had ambition. It was everything I think London Live should be - right down to coming live from the centre of London.

Didn't they frequently get into trouble with the ITC over the content they aired? It's something I seem to remember.

Dane Bowers, Samantha Mumba, The Honeyz... where are they now? At least Barney went on to better things (Bear Behaving Badly was better than this, right?)

Was it The Computer Channel that had a closedown that consisted of views from inside a hamster's cage and they followed the hamster around all night on the cameras?

Wasn't that Rapture? Though I seem to remember it too.

Must have been - what I've called Computer Channel appears to have actually been called .tv (without rodent cam), but there was a Computer Channel in the BSB days which apparently wasn't aimed at the public.

And apparently it was "mouse cam", not hamster cam that ran on Rapture.

I remember a big amount of publicity for The Advert Channel, which was meant to be just non-stop adverts all day until they realised that wasn't actually possible for copyright/Equity reasons. What you instead got was long low-budget studio broadcasts of various unknown presenters just talking about their favourite adverts, with the only actual adverts shown being for NTL Broadband every now and again.

I think they did actually manage to get some actual vintage adverts shown on the channel in the end, but by then no one cared and the channel quietly ended soon after it started.

No, you're partly right. The Computer Channel was the original name for .tv and was on Sky in the mid-late 90s.

Wasn't there a channel that showed fish swimming around in a large fish tank during its interludes?

Another couple of early Sky Digital channels were Simply Money and The Money Channel both of which, ironically, ran into financial difficulties and closed down. Although I think Simply Money spawned into a shopping channel for a while afterwards before eventually disappearing.

Ah, the Simply channels! There was a whole network of them at one point - Simply Music, Simply Einstein, Simply Shopping, Simply Nostalgia.

Simply Money was where Martin Lewis started out as well.
