Game On, originally a BBC One series but was repeated on UK Gold.

Note there were 2 different Matthew's, a very young Samantha Janus and another song (Gigolo Aunts - Where I Find My Heaven) used as a TV theme, how very 90s.

Was on BBC2, actually, because it was very sexually explicit. They actually referenced the cast change in the show, because the first episode with the second one involved a scene where they were watching Roseanne and saying how stupid they were to change an actor without even mentioning it.

It got a bit of publicity at the time because it was co-written by the very famous drama writer Andrew Davies, but I never liked it, it was all pretty charmless and the characters were pretty repellent. Where I Find My Heaven is a brilliant song, though, and I have fond memories of it, not least as it was the last record played on Radio 1 by my favourite ever DJ, the wonderful Kevin Greening.

I've just watched Series 2, Episode 1 and can't find the reference you mention.

I remember it. Think it was pre credits.

I think it was post credits, right at the end of the show. I think they're watching a soap opera and say something like "Don't you just hate it when they change an actor without mentioning it".

Didn't Roseanne themselves make a similar scene based around their cast change, by having a debate on which Darrin in Bewitched was best?

Loved those titles and the music.

Speaking of remakes. I think I was the only person who liked the Martin Clunes remake of Reggie Perrin and was disappointed they didn't at least finish it off with a one-off special.

Wikipedia says Caitlin Moran compared it with As Time Goes By, and I love that show, maybe I'm of a minority who likes that kind of comedy.

The first episode of that got ten million viewers, thrashing Brian Conley on ITV and being Vic and Bob's biggest audience by absolutely miles, clearly everyone was very excited about it. But the ratings plummeted, alas, and the second series was flung about all over the place, watched by nobody.

A bit of a shame, as I liked it, and in many ways we can see it as a forerunner of the Doctor Who revival, with Higson working as showrunner, special guests every week, Tom Baker (obv) and loads of people involved in the Who revival taking part like Mark Gatiss. My favourite bit of the whole thing was Andrew McGibbon - sidekick of that man again, Kevin Greening - doing his brilliant Splicer's Disease routine ("Children appreciate being taught in a... GIANT WALNUT!") in one of the episodes.

So forgotten, it's already been mentioned in this thread!

Another dire ITV sitcom from the late 90s - Babes in the Wood Confused

Forget about shows that got lost in time - how about an entire channel?

I used to love whereits.at - it was amateur, shoddily-produced, but it was fun and had ambition. It was everything I think London Live should be - right down to coming live from the centre of London.
