Pretty much. It had pop acts, phone in competitions, lots of gunge....that kind of thing. There was also a talent show bit called 'Stars Up Their Nose' and a pre-fame Katie Melua was one of the contestants once.
Ahh Mad For It! Brings back some memories, wasn't it billed as like a 'get ready for the weekend' type of show?

For a long time only UTV continued to show it. When they dropped it in 2003 it continued to be made for Friendly TV for a year or two.

Did any of the local companies re edit the programme with local CA? I remember STV still showing it but Im sure there dropped it aswell by the late 90s. I think it was moved to late saturdays afternoons.
By Jan 98 only STV, Grampian, HTV, UTV and WestCountry it seems had it on the Saturday lunchtimes. it seems in the summer 98 "Trouble" picked up the series. During 2000 Central Tried again but went Meh, the last companies to have it in 2001 where the ones that kept it in 1998.

I wonder why UTV kept the series for two years longer than anyone else?

Loved Mad For It, wasn't it a joint show with Nickelodeon or something? anyone remember CBBC on Nick with Otis?

Carlton production, didn't AFAIK have much to do with Nickelodeon apart from looking like something they may have done what with shed loads of gunge and what not.
CBBC on Nick didn't always have Otis, as this clip demonstrates, first half from 1998 and a semi-decent DOG that replaced the horrible one seen in the second half of the clip from 1997 and before the BBC 1997 rebrand:

Marvin P. Porcuvark, who surely must have been Otis's lovechild.
Must have been a spiky conception!
The idea of CBBC having a slot on an otherwise unrelated commerical channel seems very bizarre these days! Though I believe there was a Channel 4 branded slot on Paramount Comedy around the same time.

I did think that some of the schools programmes could have been unpopular with teachers, for a variety of reasons, so have faded into obscurity. However, a previous discussion has revealed that there isn't much enthusiasm on this forum for watching schools programmes outside of school which means that there could be few memories of the schools programmes that they didn't watch at school.
I suppose we could add a large chunk of the ITV Schools/ITV Schools on 4/4Schools programme library to this thread, although I suppose it depends how much mileage you or your school managed to get out of the service either at the time or recorded and played back later, as it's very unlikely I'd have thought you got to sit in front of the TV for the entire two and a half hours.

When you're 6 years old you don't realise how cheap the sets were and how bad the dragon costume was!

Wasn't unique to Look & Read I'm sure, probably no end of 70s and 80s (and occasionally 90s?) shows with sets that look cheap. T-Bag had to make do with three sets per episode, period and looking at the episode posted earlier in the thread it didn't have a lot of budget for, well anything really, it was cheap and cheerful.
