Is it still made (I'll check wiki)?

Edit: Yes it is. Mike Mendoza's* son was in it apprently and was offerd the chance to go into Neighbours but turned it down to be a pilot.
Mike Mendoza him self was probbley more famous in New Zealand.

* talkSPORT weekend over night presenter.

Yes there is a serial killer on it at the moment, and they made it look like "Kieran" (adam rickitt) was the murderer... I dunno when it was last aired in the UK but its improved since.

As for Mike Mendoza .. never heard or seen him on it.

Here is a promo airing as of today for Shortland Street http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a89KUQEGuNg

I used to be a fan when it was shown on ITV. I think if would have been axed anyway in the uk even if they didnt take the regional slots away as it was doing quite poor in the ratings by the end and regional slots are for regional programmes.

It was on at 1pm on HTV for years, then they moved it to 2.30pm and skipped over 2 years of storylines to catch up with Carlton so no wonder so many people lost interest.

Sounds like a decent replacement for Neighbours on BBC1. Also go well with Doctos and All Saints - making afternoons a medical drama event!!!!!!!

TBH I actually miss Shortland Street since it was last regulary shown on ITVGranada - and I don't mean the 6 week stint 18 months after Granada finished its regular run.

Only thing is, if the BBC did pick it up - where would they begin the show from. Isn't it about 10 years old now, in NZ????

There would be no variety if the BBC showed it with medical drama after medical drama.

I think its about 15 years old now in NZ.

Yeah it used to be on 14:30 on Central too, before it was quitely dropped. To make way for original programming like repeats of Midsommer Murder
