I'm afraid that Shortland Street is a terrible, terrible program. It's awful! Surely you only watch it for irony value?

Everyone knows that the show to stick on is Quincy ME.

And petitions don't work anyway. They REALLY don't work.

Shortland Street is a great show. It's better than Family Fortunes etc.

It hasn't been networked so we should give SS a chance on ITV.If they had done it from day 1,it would have been popular.

Quincy sucks. It's on all the time.

Maybe that's because it's good, unlike Shortland Street which 95% of people turn off as soon as it comes on. Truly piss-poor stuff.

When I was a stewed-ant I used to be around when it was on - I was thinking of keeping a record of all the episodes I hadn't seen but I never got around to it.

I did a screensaver to - I think it's still around for download here.

I meant to update it with an MP3 theme - perhaps I'll make some time this week to freshen it up.

I would have known that was you even if you'd put a false name at the end!

Using words like 'Carlton regions', 'networked' and actually mentioning something other than BBC2 Cult programming was a big give away!

It looks like ITV1 Border are going to axe Shortland Street as from next week the show will only be on a Wednesday and they are showing programmes in-line with the other GMG regions on Mon/Tues and High Road on Thurs.

I cant say im suprised as GMG made it clear once all the regions showed all the eps they had aquired it would end and no more eps would be bought. My guess is Border will axe the show at the end of the 1999 season - they are currently at Nov 1999. Thank god Carlton regions still show 2001 eps - we've reached June 2001 now on the ITV1 Wales, West, West-country, London and Carlton for Central England regions. LOL

I received an e-mail from Border this morning re Shortland Street.

Thanks for your message regarding Shortland Street. Unfortunately this programme is indeed nearing the end of it's contract, the final episode of which will be shown on Wednesday 26th March '03.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us, if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards
Karen

Looks like its just the Carlton regions who will be showing SS from now on. The final episode on Border will be litterely weeks before the would have reached the 1999 finale.

I really dont know why so many people have issues with this show.

I do; if it wasn't for Maggie Thatchers insane idea to auction off the ITV Franchises in the late 80's, then ITV companies would currently have more money to produce (or even buy in) decent programming.
However, everyones worst nightmare has come to fruition and now we are stuck with trash like Family Fortunes (for gods sake, the host has speech impediments!!), The Planet's Funniest Animals, and god awful Shortland Street.
So, to add insult to injury, you have decided to create a petition with the aim of reversing one of ITVs few good decisions - axing the show!
If you want a cause to lobby for, then why not campaign for more intelligent programming on ITV 1; more regional programming; or more innovation on the network?

Have you seen regional prgramming, it is horrid. I dont think you understand that if Shortland Street did not come on you would get planets funniest animals or whatever anyway you would not get regional programes and even when you do they are not truely regional. Another thing that you forget is if the show moves it frees up 3 slots for your precious regional shows so it is win, win for everybody!!

Shortland Street isn't that bad. It is slightly confusing why everyone takes so much effort into writing negative comments about the show.

The current way it is schedules means it will never create a popular following over here. Daytime shows are usually shown 5 days a week, and the 2.30pm slot is at a time when people are leaving home to collect the kids, or just GO OUT!

However, I must say that I have only ever seen 3 episodes since it has started on Carlton London, and due to the fact i'm at college. The scenes where Neighbours is in Erinsborough Hospital are far more exciting than Shortland Street Hospital. But that's my opinion. I think it should be given a chance at 5.00pm for at least a couple of weeks, to see how well it does. We might all be surprised?

Why doesn't channel five buy it!?

I agree with that - people on here are quick enough to say the show is crap - when half of them dont watch it properly.

The fact Border are axing the show means the remaining regions will all be showing the same eps on the same day ie 2001 eps which means it would be easier to network it as all regions could just pick up with the Carlton storylines.

Hi Jeremy

I'm afraid there could be a number of reasons why Shortland Street is nearing the end of its contract on Border, but I cannot give you a specific reason.
However, I can tell you that the last episode will be number 1877.

Thanks.
