What is strange is they still have the rights to 27 more episodes of SS which now they appear not to be showing - so maybe SS could return as a filler for a regional slot one day?

Do the Carlton regions ever show Ghost Stories as these are the only slots that require fillers, other regional slots require regional programmes. I'm not sure how they've gotten away with showing Shortland Street instead of regional programmes for this long

My region HTV Wales havent shown Ghost Stories for aggggess - infact everything except SS on HTV shown in a regional slot has been a true local program. Infact HTV opt out of the network at least 3 times a week - Sunday afternoon they use 1 opt out, Tuesday at 7.30pm and I forget when the other is, I think its a Tuesday at 10.30pm or do all regions show a local prog then?

The reason SS lasted so long was it was popular (well it used to be before moved to 2.30pm) and HTV dont need a load of local progs during the day, they have one on Fridau but the main ones are in the evening.

Perhaps Jez phoned Carlton up and threatened to sing at them down the telephone unless they showed Shortie Street instead of regional proggies Laughing

You really don't have a sense of humour do you? Have you ever seen Keeping Up Appearances where Emmett lives in constant fear of Hyacinth in case she starts singing at him (amongst everything else)? No? Well liken Emmett to Carlton and you be the Bucket woman (pretend) and you'll get the joke do you not? Rolling Eyes

Or are you just bitter now that you've got nothing to watch on the telly? Wink

Now look here - there is a time and a place for humourous comments - its not here and its not now - how would you like it if you were a fan of SS and it was axed and people started making a joke about it? And you of all people should realise this as you were a fan of Crossroads which was axed.

And yes ive seen Keeping Up Appearances on BBC1 - It was quite good but im not in the mood for humour right now

As for being bitter - well I am quite angry at how the whole SS thing was handled but I watch other stuff on ITV such as Coro St and HTV News.

I reckon bulk order was the key, can they take the rights to the excess 27 episodes back to the distributor and get their money back on those 27 eps, all of, ooh, £2.70? Mr. Green

Ah Shortland Street, the replacement to The Young Doctors back in 1993 on Tyne Tees, however, TTTV had the good sense to remove shortland street and high road not long afterwards.

The recent return of SS to TTTV (via the Granada peeps) showed that we do have taste in the north and we watched something else.

At least the Young Doctors (also a grundy show) had terrible plots that you could laugh at. I'm sure my old SS loving MR A Barton would slap me for saying such a terrible thing, but well if a show doesn't rate then it needs removing and SS has had ten years to show its worth -and it hasn't. Very Happy

I hate to grind an axe but you (and James Martin) were quite happy to shovel piles of the "this show Crossroads is crap, get rid of it, oh good its gone, hurrah" stuff to us about the demise of Crossroads and now we're shovelling it all back at you over Shortland Street you don't wanna know. See you're happy to dish it out but you can't take it back can you? Rolling Eyes

Oh good now you know how we felt over Crossroads. Not nice is it? Would you like to apologise for all the "hurt" you caused us Xroads fans in the Crossroads thread by being overly elated when it was dropped? Now your show has gone we're overly elated as well but you don't like it do you?

Neil I couldnt care less what you say - after losing SS I really dont care what your opinion is now - Crossroads was crap which was why I said those comments, which were my opinion which I was entitled too- you are welcome to your opinion on SS but I simply pointed out that your comments may seem inappropriate to SS fans who are currently upset over the axing - they never said anything about Crossroads so dont take it out on them - if you have something to say then say it to me personally not in a SS thread.

I agree with what James Martin said about crossroads - basically it sucked. And I cant believe you are still going on about what James said 3 months after Crossroads was axed

As for apologising - give me one reason why I should - this is a tv forum, I was entitled to express my opinion in a thread *I* started - If you didnt like it then you didnt have to continue to read the thread. I dont care if you are elated by the end of SS - good for you
