Also in todays episode we got the scene with Matt waking up after the party wearing very little - and very nice that was too.

For the first ever time today I watched SS. Well Granada regions were showing trash, I thought I would give it a go. You can’t say its Crap until you've tried it, and I've now tried it and well, yeah it was interesting to watch.

Is Matt the guy who pulled those pink knickers from under the duvet, and then he asked someone was it them who he had got it on with? I was not observing as well as I could of. It was too hot today to watch properly.

Carlton have confirmed that they will cease transmission of Shortland Street next week on the 27th or 28th (this date varies according to different listings magazines).
The good news is the show has been picked up by the itv network and will be screened nationwide, the bad news is that no data is available on the scheduling, the Duty office at Carlton stated it will be back in a different form than we are used to and that there are few network slots available and that the network is still looking to place the show.
More info show be made available one assumes next week after the last episode screens on Carlton.

Does anyone have anymore info?

I got an e-mail from Carlton earlier asking why SS has been axed

Quote:

There are two reasons why the series is no longer showing on Carlton

1/ this occupied a regional slot which has now reverted all to network
who
will be launching a new patten in wk37

2/ it's ratings has been very dissappointing

We have no further information to give you but your comments have been logged her at Carlton

DUTY OFFICE-WA

It is a shame the series is being axed after 10 years - they say it had poor viewing figures but what do Carlton expect when they skip 600 episodes on HTV, take it of air in London for years and move it to the poor slot of 2.30pm. Lets hope the ITV network want it but I dont think they will.

Hi,

We have just checked with Acquisitions, and we have no plans to network the series.

As this is shown at regional level it is up to the individual regions to find a slot for this series

Kind regards,

ITV Duty Office

I like the bit where they say its up to the regions to show it - but HELLO Where are Carlton supposed to show it - they take away all the regional slots apart from the ones for local news etc.

We're screwed

A petition asking ITV to move Shortland Street to 5pm in all regions has been set up on the UK Shortland Street site.

We need to get loads of signatures to send to ITV if we want SS to replace Crossroads. Otherwise we will end up with endless repeats of You've been framed

The petition can be found here : Shortland St Petition

I'm a little confused. I know the patition is a good idea, but ITV have made it very clear that 5pm will have new things like that 24 hour quiz etc etc. So if ITV are saying things like that, how are they going to change their minds and show it at 5pm on Network?

One small question. How would SS fans feal if Network put it on during ITV NightTime, eg old N&D slot. SS could be a big hit with Nighttime viewers?? What do you all think?

Why waste your time ? It's not performing, so it has to go. You know Nigel Pickard has plans for the 5-6pm slot and he has already ruled out a soap, so there is no chance for an imported soap.

It's going to be quizzes and property shows at 5-6pm.

Carlton have said that nothing does well @ 2.30pm, however Shortland Street does better than other programmes in that slot in all regions except West Country.

The petiton is being updated as to be more of a protest agaisnt itv over there treatment of Shortland Street and to show them the show has fans it has been signed by hundreds of people so it obviously has fans.

"hundreds" is not enough. A couple of hundred thousand would probably be a good starting point before an ITV executive became remotely interested.

id have to agree with your point about the petiton not achieving much but at least it will show ITV it has some fans which is why I reposted my original post with the link for the petition. I also think another channel like living tv or five would more likely show it if we sent a mass of signatures - I just think SS fans need to do something positive if we are going to save the show!

For a programme that is at a regional level, in a death slot with no promo, I think hundreds is pretty good if you look at the break down of location you will see the Central region is still where Shortland Street has its core fan base.
