This whole week was brilliant with lots of new storylines emerging and the wrapping up of the big storyline over the last few months Samara. The show was paced perfectly to, over the week.

Yes the show was nicely paced this week.

I am aware that Rachel and Waverly are both leaving the show - Rachel left some months ago in NZ. I wonder if the show will go downhill as these are 2 of the longest serving characters. Oh well it will be at least 2 years before they leave here in the UK as we are only on August 2001 storylines @ 4 times a week at the moment.

I dont understand why Donna has stayed in the show for so long - she is STILL in the show in NZ yet the character outstayed her welcome ages ago! Confused

Just to let all Shortland St fans know there is a competition on the Shortland St UK website - you can win some signed Shortland St starcards .

http://www.shortlandst.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Cast1999.JPG

The cast on the above pic are

Back Row - Donna Heka, Waverly Wilson, Mike Galloway, Moira Crombie, Lionel Skeggins, David Kearney, Minnie Crozier, Rangi Heremair, Dr Bridget Hastings, Nick Harrison and James Thornton

Front Row - Dr Frank Malone, Nurse Caroline Buxton, Rachel Mckenna, Nurse Ellen Crozier, Dr Daniel Buchanan

This one contains the cast from the point where HTV dropped the series to become in-line with Carlton. God there are only 4 characters still in the show from the people on this pic (Nick, Wave, Rachel and Donna)

Anyway to enter this competition visit www.shortlandstreet.co.uk

Carlton have confirmed that they currently own the rights to screen up to and including episode 2367, today's episode 03/07/2003 is 2309 this means that the show will cease transmission on 09/10/2003 if no new episodes are acquired, this also ties in with the start of the Rugby World Cup on the 10th October running through till the 22nd November which Carlton said at the beginning of the year would affect Shortland Street.

Whether the show will be back during the Rugby, after, next year or never is anyone's guess. I encourage all Shortland Street fans out there to sign the new petition to get the show renewed and also to contact Carlton directly to let them know you watch the show and that you want that contract renewed before the 9th October. Carlton will listen to viewers comments as it shows them and advertisers that viewers are watching. If you prefer you can phone them 0870 6006766 or Fax them 0121 634 4898

Viewers of Shortland Street in Wales should note that due to coverage of the Llangollen Eisterfodd 2003 (Presented by HTV's main news reader Lucy Cohen) there will be no episode on Thursday of this week.

Carlton have said they dont have a slot so will be missing out the episode in order to be in-line with the other Carlton regions the following Monday - but viewers with Sky could tune in to ITV1 West, ITV1 London, ITV1 Westcountry or ITV1 Carlton for Central England and see the episode at 2.30pm if they prefer SS to Llangollen 2003

ACTUALLY, if SS is only pre-empted for the August bank holiday and 9/11, it will finish on the 16th of October, NOT the 9th! So it isn't pre-calculated to finish just before the rugby world cup!
As well as this, there is no guarantee that there will be more TV specials about 9/11 this year - last year it may have been because it was one year on. They can't have special programmes about it every year without it getting somewhat repetitive.

So not only have HTV missed out loads and loads of episodes they are now dropping the odd episode aswell!

What ever next!

This shows that they have no respect for the viewer and show a total disregard for people's viewing habits!

All that has to happen is that the following Monday afternoon - HTV show the missing Thursday episode at 14:00 - 14:30 then the scheduled monday episode along with the network version at 14:30 - 15:00

Im sure HTV would rather miss an episode of the DIY/Antiques programme that fills the 14:00 slot rather than an important episode of SS!

I dont think Carlton ever pre-empted it to end in time for the World Cup - they intended to screen it 3 days a week (Mon-Wed) and had enough eps to last until December 2003. However at Easter there was an additional episode added on a Thursday due to ITV giving the regions an extra local slot on a Friday so regional progs were shifted to Friday, so that is why the contract has ended a bit sooner.

I dont think HTV have any slots between now and Monday to show the missing episode - they are showing Quincy on Monday from 1.30pm-2.30pm but they could have opted out of the 1pm slot I suppose. I think they have been using the maximum amount of opt outs they are allowed maybe? Recently they have been opting out a lot on a Sunday afternoon and at 7.30pm on a Tuesday etc

I dont think Carlton would be bothered if they did miss an ep on ITV1 Wales as they just see SS as a cheep filler program Evil or Very Mad

Well they could easily opt out on Friday afternoon at 14:30 to show the 'missing' SS episode! It would fit in nicely with SS being scheduled at 14:30 throughout the rest of the week!

Im sure they could 'put back' whatever is bein scheduled at 14:30 this friday for another week. But more interestingly ITV schedulers seem totally inept of creating any bond with the viewers and treating their viewers with the respect that they deserve!

The way that the Remember series has been treated is also disgraceful - with the first episode being on a sunday afternoon then one late on tuesday night and then to confuse the viewers even more they pull the late tuesday edition to replace it with a new series of Crime Secrets! Just what a mess ITV schedulers are causing for Welsh viewers!

I agree, 2.30pm tommorow would have been better especially as there is a new series starting at 2.30pm tommorow and then it isnt on next Friday due to F1.

I sent an e-mail to Carlton re the Shortland St situation and asking them why they couldnt show it tommorow @ 2.30pm instead and got this reply

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately this will not be possible due to the great demand and commitment to regional programming for HTV Wales region. However your comments and concerns will be noted.
We apologies for any inconvenienced caused and thank you for contacting Carlton Television Ltd

LOL Im suprised they called it "HTV Wales" rather than ITV1 Wales.

Demand and commitment say Carlton. I can see they have a legal obligation to bring regional programmes to the Wales region but demand I find hard to believe.
