A second TV shopping channel has had its licence to broadcast in the UK revoked by regulators, which today showed their teeth in an effort to protect consumers who had ordered goods from the station.

Shop Smart Television lost its licence just two months after communications regulator Ofcom slapped a similar penalty on Auctionworld for failing to pay a £450,000 fine.

Ofcom said it was taking away Shop Smart's licence to broadcast because the channel had failed to respond to any correspondence from the regulator, or from the Advertising Standards Authority.

The ASA referred Shop Smart to Ofcom in December, after finding the broadcaster in breach of its licence for failing to supply goods to customers in the delivery times it advertised.

A total of 19 viewers complained to the ASA and Ofcom about late delivery of goods they ordered from Shop Smart between June and December last year.

Of course as it ceased broadcasting in November this will not have much effect... Rolling Eyes

Yes, but even if they have stopped trading then Ofcom expects the receievers or other firm(s) appointed to sell off the assets of the broadcaster, to continue communication until any outstanding matters are sorted out.

This is what (sort of) happened during the Auctionworld mayhem. Ofcom were still in 'dialouge' with the administrators of Auctionworld until the trapdoor was opened - even though if you read the documents uploaded to the Ofcom website, AW's soliciters tried heroically to stall for more time, and when that tactic didn't work, attempted to bad mouth a government regulator by questioning it's practices.

They really need to get rid of these American infommercial type shopping channels... and the "Teleshopping" strands on most of the channels... they're just terrible - and they all seem to sell the same things...

There's nothing to say that the company has gone bust - they don't necessarily have any recievers or administrators.

Auctionworld didn't just recieve the fine, they were £14 million in debt
