Shoestring: Complete Series One and Two DVD release

At long last, a complete DVD boxset looks like it will soon be a reality. (August 2017)

A few weeks ago, Network distribution made it public that they were to release Series Two of this highly problematic for commercial release series (Series One has been out for a short while now). They then announced that both series were to be released in a complete DVD box set. Today, Amazon have placed it on their website for a forthcoming release (2 Oct 2017, but this is subject to change, I would assume).

Network's website (Network On Air) still do not have it shown in their 'Coming Soon' section though, despite other titles shown which have been given a similar future release date.

Never heard of it. A quick Google and it sounds like an Alan Partridge pitch.

That's correct. Except that Bergerac wasn't anywhere near as good.

Flattered to be considered a youngster at 32...

However, I'm not old enough to remember The Sweeney or Z Cars - I'm still aware of their existence.

Always encouraging to see Network releasing long forgotten shows though. I hope for the day they decide to launch an on-demand service as I think it would do very well (and with less overheads too!)

For those who don't know, as 623058 said, this was the series from which Bergerac was a spin off. It shot Trevor Eve to instant stardom as the shabbily-dressed, quirky radio private ear, Eddie Shoestring. Tame by today's standards of crime drama, Eddie tackled cases of low-level crime around the Bristol area.

The problem in trying to commercially release the two series has always been that, being based at a Bristol local radio station, each episode has many pop tracks of the time playing in the background, a complete headache for rights issues regarding the music used.

Well ! I've heard some bobbins on this forum from time to time but this takes the biscuit.

John Nettles is a God to us.

The price of Series One is currently £59.99 on Amazon! I'm assuming its production run has come to an end and only the remaining stocks are left, hence the current price. As long as this complete Series One and Series Two set is uncut, then happy days. I don't expect it to go on sale at this high a price.

Oh no ! We have Henry Cavill now. Who needs Nettles any more! Cool
