arrrrrrrggggghhhh! Andy Marriott is announcing on Carlton Central this afternoon, yet I am also hearing him live on Saga Radio at the same time. Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Carlton Central can't be going down the recorded announcement path - tell me it's not true (bashes head on desk THUD THUD) Surprised)

I know that announcements are recorded from the previous nights announcers for the slot 9.25-12.30 but not for the rest of the day.

mmmmmmm maybe Andy wants to get back into announcing full time (since joining Saga he's been on rarely) and perhaprs Carlton have agreed this and after his show at Saga he goes back for the live stuff tonight! mmmmmmm oh well only time will tell.

Pity that they have to resort to recorded stuff when I am sitting at home available and all that <grin>

Isn't it probably more likely that Saga radio is recorded?

If it's a satellite/net/digital station then the chances are that he records all his links at one go and then the automation does the rest

Saga 105.7 is a new ILR Station in the Midlands - Andy is live on their this afternoon - the show is not recorded.

Yeah, I can't see the average ILR being automated. I did some work for A1-FM (the old name for Alpha 103 in Darlington) and it was all manual controls and everything was done live. That's a typical run-of-the-mill ILR station.

Anyway I thought all Central continuity was recorded until 5pm these days?

I don't know when it changed Jason - maybe today!

The original continuity shift pattern at Carlton Central was:

0925-1630 - Announcer 1 (Live)
1630-0030 - Announcer 2 (Live)
0030-0600 - Overnight Service from London

This changed last year when Carlton Central changed to:

0925-1200 - Announcer 1 (Recorded from the Announcer on duty the previous evening)
1200-0000 - Announcer 2 (Live)
0000 - Announcer 2 Recorded until the overnight service from London began.

Incidentally Andy wasn't the duty announcer yesterday at Carlton is was freelancer Amanda Youngs - Andy was live on LWT Surprised)

Yeah, right!
OK, it's less likely during the day, but it does happen.

One local station in London a few years ago was autmated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most of the new DAB stations are.

It certainly isn't difficult to automate a station with 'genuine' as live links. I wouldn't be surprised if Saga actually is automated at certain times.

Andy is also freelance, but is best known for his work on Carlton Central but you can sometimes hear him on LWT and Granada Plus. Also he does a lot of work for the Lincs FM Plc. group - namely a show on Rutland.

Saga is automated - they have RCS master control in the studio, which is known throught the radio world as (sometimes!) the best at voicetrack automation.
This is as I understand the live or recorded schedule.
06.00 - 12.00 Live
12.00 - 13.00 Automated (but sometimes live)
13.00 - 19.00 Live (Andy is on 1 till 4)
19.00 - 22.00 Automated
22.00 - 01.00 Live
01.00 - 03.00 Automated (repeats of 19.00 - 22.00 shows)
03.00 - 06.00 Live weekdays / Automated weekends

Interestingly Andy is on Saga on Sunday afternoons - a listening to him yesterday, it does seem that the show could have been automated for him to do LWT on Sundays.

Hello all,

Shall I explain.....?

Firstly the daily live/automated sequence of Saga 105.7fm as posted is correct.

Today I was live on Saga as usual and recorded on Central.
This was because of a colleague's illness. The recorded announcements were made sometime ago as emergency cover for just this eventuality.

When I finished at Saga I went to Tesco to buy a chicken tikka masala (which I shall eat during Police, Camera, Action), and then picked up the live continuity shift at the end of C.ITV

I trust that clears it up.

Andy.

P.S. I was live at LWT on Sunday so my Saga show was voice-tracked by arrangement.

Hmmm...I've heard that name before, and I'm pretty sure he did the voiceovers for my local radio station back in 1999.

I think this is the same guy who did the following jingle (the male bit - obviously! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
