Saying that, in the Carlton fruit machine era, the idents were always perfectly timed. Each ident had varying durations, and would end at exactly the right time for the programme to start. I've never worked out how and never seen it anywhere else.

Here's an example: the announcer would stop speaking, fade up the background music which would then finish and the programme would start.

Any suggestions or am I going mad?

Simple. They put some thought into it. Make a range of trailers of varying lengths and make sure that you put the right one on at the right time.

It's the sort of thing that Leeds could never do, because they are too lazy/incompetent/short-staffed (delete as appropriate).

I think the presentation totally sucks now. Why they have too keep plugging the ITV Sport Channel before programmes ( does anyone actually watch this channel?) is beyond me. Then they`ll say 'but here on ITV1' rather than Granada etc, its just lazyness, Anglia and Meridian dont do this, they use their own names and they are also Granada companies

YTV has the technology to use seperate announcement before every program link, regardless of whether its prime time or afternoon or regional programs. So why is it hardly used (except before reg progs???)

Well surprisingly, Anglia gave mention as to what was on the other ITV channels (ITV2, ITV Sport Channel), just before 'Emmerdale' last night.  I don't know if Meridian viewers heard a very similar anouncement though.

On firday LWT always starts somethign like this:

'It's Friday so it's time for LWT your weekend ITV'

They very rarely say part of ITV 1 & mostly say your weekend ITV. Since that video wall thing they have had both the ITV Sports Channel & ITV 2 logo where the hearts thing would usuallly be & say something along the lines of:

'Over on ITV 2 now The Bill here on LWT the ITV Weekend News'.

LWT never call themselves ITV 1 & Carlton now add Television alot when they announce a programme;)

I think you're wrong - LWT mention ITV1 a hell of a lot more than Carlton ever do.

Before the numerical addition, LWT enjoyed saying 'part of the ITV network.' This was a rare occurance on Carlton. But since the ITV 1 advent, Carlton have mentioned 'part of ITV 1' more, but still not as much as LWT.

RE: The topic of 'Granada' as a whole for all its companies:

What I can't understand is that as ITV is made up of the 'regional' services, why do they have to put programmes out like this (talking about Heartbeat). Heartbeat is set in Yorkshire, made by Yorkshire so it should have Yorkshire on its end cap! It doesn't matter about who owns YTV.

I think this business though will end up just like Channel 3 North East did! Well, let's hope so!

The technology they have doesn't seem to be that good, and when they do put out different annoucements there is often a mistake like this.

'nor Barnes and Alan Hardwick present Missing in half....'
or
'ation Street is later than usual tonight at...'

so maybe thats why some announcers avoid using the system

With regard to the 'LWT - Your Weekend ITV' statement (which I'm sure I heard just a couple o weeks ago) it's been common for LWT CA's to say it ever since the slogan was introduced in the 80s, no matter what the ident. It is an OK slogan tho - catchy and factual all in one - rare on telly these days!Razz:

Well after Heartbeat tonight, it had the purple endcap but this time it said 'A Yorkshire Television production' and the GR/N/D/ logo underneath.

That doesn't seem very bad now then does it!.

Although, I hope the design of that endboard won't be coming to any idents anytime soon, as its horrible!.

At least the company name is right this time!
