Maybe they are planning to stick the regional logos onto ITV1 trailers, i.e. [itv]1] on the left and regional logo on the right? Are Anglia and Meridian trailer DOGs the same style as Granada, TTTV and Yorkshire's (grey square), and do they use an endboard by the way? Hmm, thinking about it, does anyone know what Border do as well?

Anglia DOG`s were in colour ie not grey a few months back. I dont think Border use a DOG on regional trailors

Border can't really have a DOG because they don't really have a logo anymore Sad

I can't see GMG/YTV putting regional logos on national trailers to be honest.

BTW TTTV does not have a grey-box DOG anymore. It's a white TTTV with the dots around it, with no background (if you see what I mean Wink) this was done to match their (very nice) corporate look that they introduced in September 2000. A pity then that they aren't bothering to use the full animated version of their ident anymore (another completely illogical change by Leeds!!!)

So how does Anglia's grey-box DOG work then if it's not in colour? I can just about imagine the Meridian one, but Anglia's must look very odd.

The GMG grey-box logo style sounds very similar to LWT's old trailer graphics from about 1998. It was the LWT logo in a grey rectangular box in the right hand corner, later changed to the old IT* logo when it compromised with Carlton over promotions. Does this sound familiar to GMG viewers?

Oh my god, you've just brought back memories of those nasty multi-coloured endboards which completely didn't fit in with anything. Yep, the DOG for those was similar to the current one, but was narrower, i.e. not square.

lol! I found a video the other day of the World Cup 98 final with those endboards in! It has a flourescent stripe down the bottom and looks like the side of a fire engine!

The good old days! Wink

Yes. As I recall YTV and Granada started making ITV-branded trailers between them in February 1998, with the ITV dog looking like the current YTV etc ones do now, on the right hand side. In fact, IIRC, during that period the local trailers had the grey-box local logo on the left hand side. Then we started getting the LWT trailers during the weekend which broadly matched the ones YTV were making, and the typically dull Granada ones (they still had Granada announcers at this point) disappeared. LWT, Granada and YTV were all using a slightly strange san-serif font.

Later on we started getting some trailers that were obviously coming from Carlton and/or Central; these had a white ITV logo on the left hand side and a totally different look. These were used alongside the YTV and LWT ones.

Finally in about July 1998 trailers started coming through with a font like the one used by ITV now, with the same logo as Carlton were using and a background on the endcap that looked like the 1989 backgrounds (ribbons/rivers, in blue or red). YTV-made ITV-branded trailers started to disappear at this point. I am guessing that these were the first of the Network Control-produced ITV trailers to come on-line.

This all sound familiar?

I wonder why TT has a different type of DOG? YTV does not show the full version of its regional ident either nowadays, I dont understand what the reason is for this

Sounds right.

In London, in early 1998, it was like this: promotions for Carlton had the Carlton logo written in white in the top left hand corner. LWT promotions had the LWT logo in a grey rectangular box in the right hand corner. Later on in 1998, the two regions seemed to compromise and decided to brand all promotions as ITV. Carlton's logo was replaced with the ITV logo (white and in the top left corner), LWTs was also replaced (in a grey box in the right hand corner). When IT* became [i t v], the logos were replaced with standard network presentaton (logo as it is now, bar the 1).

I'm not sure whether this fits in with the GMG situation.

Regarding Meridian, Anglia: they have always put their logos in colour on the left hand side below the [i t v] logo. I haven't seen these regions recently, and can't say whether they have been Granadaised.

Too complicated.
Its much easier to have idents where the 'talking' starts at the beginning, than dealing with idents of varying length.

Thats why they did the 'Short/Lines' ITV1 ident

Saying that, in the Carlton fruit machine era, the idents were always perfectly timed. Each ident had varying durations, and would end at exactly the right time for the programme to start. I've never worked out how and never seen it anywhere else.

Here's an example: the announcer would stop speaking, fade up the background music which would then finish and the programme would start.

Any suggestions or am I going mad?

Yeah I can understand that. Does kind of knacker a nice corporate look that they obviously spent time getting to look right though Sad If this is to be a permant measure though, roll on a single ITV because it really isn't good enough!
