Oh my god, look at this the GRANADA CHEVRON ?!!!???

The pic below is taken from TV Ark, apparently this slide came up at the end of Heartbeat.  How long now before Yorkshire TV is renamed Granada ????

Sadly - AIUI - Granada Production is the name for all programme production departments in the Granada conglomerate of ITV franchises.

Thus programmes made by what was once an Anglia, Yorkshire or Meridian production team may be slated as 'Granada Production's - though it seems they are retaining the logo of the region where the production team is based.
(Though sadly I hear that some production depts are being closed in some regions and merged with those in others... I heard that a big part of Anglia's religion dept., who make a large chunk of ITVs religion output, is being moved to Manchester. Anglia is concentrating on Daytime TV output for Granada Productions apparently. )

Quite sad really... However this is not the same as the presentation element of the region - which still retain the Anglia, Meridian etc identities.

(That said - Anglia and Meridian had joint presentation for ages - the trails etc were identical - a separate Anglia or Meridian logo was added to the trails on playout to both areas from Southampton...)

People are just going to be confused by that slide - showing the YTV logo with the granada name is just plain stupid. I think it's about time this whole itv1 nonsense was sorted out once and for all, and it starts with Granada getting their act together. I expected them to have done this by now, as they have now captured a number of stations.

I'd love to be controller of ITV right now, and I have for a long time.

You start by pulling executives from each franchise and sitting them round a table. They don't leave until everyone has sorted out the image of the channel - we need a solid channel!

I'm not a fan of standardisation, but I know a channel that needs some quick!

South Bank show was on last night which I don't usually watch but someone from Ilford (my home town) was on & it was good to have something to do with it that wasn't murder or rape alligations but the LWT logo was intact. Maybe LWT will be luck & escape this?

DAS - Unfortunately there is no 'Controller of ITV'... There is just a 'Controller of the ITV Network'... Not quite the same thing - they don't control the output of all ITV1 regions, just the networked programme schedules. ITV regions can still chose to leave the network, or re-shedule programmes, if they wish, though fewer and fewer are chosing to now.

ITV franchise holders still have a reasonably large degree of autonomy, and this extends to presentation etc. This is reducing as the number of companies owning ITV franchises reduces, but there are still differences between the companies - meaning it is difficult to force conformity across ITV1 throughout the UK.

I've never seen any murder or rape allegations on The South Bank Show Confused

Anyway, this has been threatened by Granada for a long time. Lets hope they adopt the whole thing across all programmes made by Granada companies and not just be a half-hearted thing. In particular it will be great to see YTV suffering the way they made Tyne Tees suffer. Mwah hah hah hah Very Happy

What I mean is usually when Ilford is murdered at all is on London Tonight when that Bouncer got killed outside the Island Night Club (The culprits still haven't been found) & The Hamiltons in Ilford with them rape alligations.

OK, I realise that not everything would be standard across the regions. But surely ITV could do something about the news and weather for instance. Just an example, but (to me) they look messy - the weather uses a mixture of odd fonts which have no connection to anything else! Why don't ITV introduce a set font (I would recommend the one used on the menu bar at itv.com) for use on the news and weather, and then expand this into sport graphics for instance. They could then also be featured in trailers.

I'm neat by nature, and ITV irritates me! I know to the man on the street it doesn't really matter, but I just wish the network had at least some standardised aspects to it - then hopefully the regions would follow suit!

Seeing as it seems almost impossible for ITV to get a uniform identity why don't they just give up and let every region have it's own unique identity?! However, I have to admit that the background in particular of that logo looks nice!

It looks like they're going to try and reintroduce a semi-generic set of looks for the GMG stations. They attempted this a while back as the Yorkshire spinning chevrons had a similar Granada and probably Tyne Tees equivalent, but Yorkshire seemed more keen to adopt them hence their overuse at the moment.

Indeed, I wouldn't at all mind if this look was properly introduced as, after all, what does it matter to Mr Average if their region is the same or not to the next? I think these new ones could have enough variation to work well, especially if we had different colours for each region or something, but I doubt that this will happen. I know someone will go 'they're a different company', but that purple is very similar to the purple in the GR/N/D/ logo...
