As far as I knew, they are not allowed any "short naps". In fact, if they close their eyes for more than 10 seconds, it's thought of as sleeping and £1,000 is removed from the prize fund.
Maybe they decided they could cope without £12,000 (Are there 12 of them, or just 6?) and wanted one final sleep. Or maybe they just wanted to spoil the programme.

Well it was really dodgy that they had their allowed sleep at 3ish this afternoon, but funnily enough at 4ish the announcer said we know this is boring, as it was a camera pointing at the Shattered logo, but then they took it off early for an extra episode of Ally McBeal. But the announcer said this was due to their allowed sleep.

They had a live link up with Dermot on today's Richard & Judy. He said that it's an experiment, they haven't tried it before, so they are taking all advice from the doctors.
The doctors said that to maintain their health they should have a short nap, this lasted for 90 minutes. It apparently helps in some ways to slightly recharge you, but doesn't get you mind functioning right. I suppose it's just enough to keep the series running till the end of the week.
I understand that for every 10 seconds they are asleep £1000 is taken off the prize money, but how long do they have to be asleep before they are eliminated and removed from the lab?

Well it has to be an ill-conceived programme to have to change the rules 1 day into the competition. I'm afraid any credibility the show had in the first place is fast being diminished.

Well I'm with you there Squarey. How bogus is it to bill a show as 'pushing people to their very limits' when they (of course) had no intention of doing so? This was why I asked asbout Health and Safety rules at the start. They must have had at least preliminary discussions with doctors who said that some sleep would be necessary.
Weirdly though, this was the one show that friends at work said they were looking forward to seeing - even those who hate the likes of BB. I think they thought (mistakenly) that Channel 4 would live up to their own hype and actually force people to stay awake beyond natural indurance.
I don't think I'd be wrong if I said, "CON!". Do you?
And to think my wee Dermot is involved in this scam.

I didn't hear any mention in the trails, nor was it on the email blurb I got in my inbox asking me to apply. That particular email went into the same folder as "Dale's I'm the Answer".

It's not a real con as it was mentioned in all the pre-show publicity.
