Looking at that page, they do seem to have done a lot of fiddling with the brand over the last couple of years.
I always thought 'the one to watch' was a good slogan.
Plus it had
the
best Promotion too. I think I still have that on my PC somewhere, from when someone uploaded it. ITV could do well by "borrowing" a couple of their ideas.
All those promotions are on the website mentioned above - aus.tv.history
They really done make excellent promos and idents. I'd love to see some ideas like this on ITV1... in fact, I think they have copied them a bit. Compare the first ITV1 celebs promo to the recent one - a vast improvement.
'The One To Watch' - dropped?! That was one of the best TV branding packages ever! Ah well, ITV can steal it now.
This new ident leaves a lot to be desired.
Is it filmed in HDTV? At the end of it, there's a widescreen advert which is really tiny - if you see what I mean.
That new ID is just a Home & Away one, and at the moment is the only program specific ident Seven are using. They re-launched with a 1 minute ident, featuring personalities from all Seven's shows, and this long ID has been cut into 30, 10 and 5 second lengths.
There's also a new ident which first aired at the start of the Rugby World Cup, which is the same style as the first 1 minute ID, except for a few different scenes, and a re-mixed soundtrack. This ID has also been cut up into shorter ones.
I understand that the revamp has occured due to declining ratings, and the arrival of a new executive.
That's an understatement. Seven has a number of new executives/managers, mostly ex-Channel Nine staff. David Leckie (ex Nine CEO) is now running the show at Seven, as well as a new News/Current Affairs director, new Programming director, and a new sales director. Seven are now going after Nine's on-air talent as well, with a few well known newsreaders and reporters changing to Seven to take up new roles.
It's also worth noting that the new soundtrack is just a remix of an old Seven theme. The five and two handsigns are from the 1980's, I believe. "Back to the future" has been the theme of the major networks this year, with Nine returning to it's long used "Still the One" brand, and a number of shows being made over by bringing back old hosts.
Apparently this makeover of Seven is the first in a three step plan to revitalise the flagging network. It's been coming third overall in the ratings recently, which is a major cause for concern, especially since - as many Seven fans have said - this was the year Seven was meant to strike back and go UP in the ratings.

I was surprised to hear that a good peak time rating for any Australian network is about 2 million. I know there's only about 20 million people in Australia, but it's still a small amount watching television.

It's the weather I suppose - think of this year, it's been quite hot (it's still warm in Blackpool today and the sun is shining) and ratings have been generally quite low over Summer.
