I just saw an ad on Sky News for a new feature: press green during a trail to add that programme to your personal planner.
I'm amazed it's taken them so long to come up with this idea - but rolling it out just beore a channel reshuffle is a good move. I wonder if it'll just be for Sky tx'ed channels, or is all broadcasters will be able to take advantage of it.
It's mentioned in the booklet that comes inside the March Sky Magazine, and looks very useful. It's been promised for quite some time, but then again the planner took alot longer than expected!
It doesn't say in the booklet whether it's only for Sky branded channels or available for all trailers that the broadcasters wish to include it on.
This is similar to a 'nice to have' feature idea I have always had for Freeview PVRs - ie. to be able to set a recording/reservation for the programme currently being trailered.
However, for most broadcasters (mentioning no names,
ITV
(oops)) I can imagine that the leap to tie in their playout automation with the necessary software to do this would be beyond them. (Given that ITV3+4 cannot cut out of and into ad-breaks without chopping off half of the last or first sentence in a part and/or getting the programme title wrong on the ad-board).
Also - why don't Freeview PVRs mimick the 'Series Link' feature which could simply allow you to search for all occurences of the selected programme in EPG? Surely it wouldn't be hard to do - if you're watching "Raffles" on ITV3 (excellent programme, btw) - or hovering over its entry in the EPG - it would be nice to press a single button (or maybe 2 or 3 at most) to list all further 'Raffles' episodes coming up in the next 7 days and set reminders/recordings if required.
