Jazz up the theme tune? Add a music bed underneath? Surely these are just gimmicks that detract from the action!

They tried that thumping music underneath the final scores and it didn't work - as shown by people complaining to POV (It's not just us - I'm sure the average Joe Bloggs has an opinion on tv pres from time to time!)

ITV's Goal Rush doesn't seem that nice to me pres wise. Then again, I always preferred the 'clean' Grandstand blue version but that obviously had to go when they realised ITV would be doing a similar programme (even though they did go to the bother of having a caption appear giving scores during the Rugby rather than just pulling the screen back). SS.com TV have the best idea - allowing the majority of the screen still to be the presenter with info right and bottom. Looks good.

And as for the theme tune - well, glad it now returns to the credits as well!

Cheers, Asa

Only the same deaf people who complained about the noisy BBC News music.

Why deaf people buy televisions I do not know - perhaps it gives them something to do while not polishing their ear trumpet!!! Wink

Jamez, your entries are incredulous! Do you live on the same planet as the rest of us?

ROFL!!! - My 'humour' takes a little while to get used to.

You have to remember I'm very un-politically correct - I say what I think, and if you lot hate it, then yah-boo to you! Razz:

If there are any deaf people on this forum, you should know me well enough by now, to know I'm only kidding.

I like Jamez' humour.

Should I stand against a wall and wait for the gunmen?

Aren't I allowed to slag things off? after all if it wernt for us lot forking out over £100 each year, you people at the BBC would be outta the job, and you will all come crashing down from your high horses!

If the BBC was actually any good at something, I would be the first to praise it. But its not - take for instance its Saturday night television line up on BBC1...

Generation Game - very tacky and out of date!
Friends like these - appeals only to a minority audience
National Lottery Jet Set - 35 minutes of sub-standard game show with lottery draw at end
Casualty - Medical Drama (one of the BBC's few popular programmes)
Randall and Hopkirk - How a second series of this was commisioned I DO NOT KNOW!
Parkinson - BBC Were so desperate for viewers, they revived this 70s chat show

Then a film, followed by 2 hours of repeats of programmes shown earlier in the week.

i do agree that the bbc is far from perfect, but, i watched an phone-in show on cspan.org with the head of bbc news, and i it made me realise how unique the bbc is.  people in america and the world hold the bbc in such high regard.  in this country we are spoiled with the quality of television compared with elsewhere.  without the license fee, it would be funded by the government, and would be at the top of the list for budget cuts ... and adverts couldnt support the bbc, so there would be budget cuts too.

on the otherhand the bbc's domestic service isnt as good as it should be - since the mid  nineties they have been chasing viewers (resulting in the current saturday night schedule), which is in order to justify the licesnse fee.  IMO the bbc should go in the direction of ch4 - varied programs, minimal soaps, and a few selected populist programs (like ch4 did with big brother).
