I was watching BBC World the other day and noticed they had a sportreader who was the spitting image of Des Lynam! Smile

Des Lynam used to scare me, with his grey hair, grey moustache and BLACK eyebrows!!! Wink

You mean David Brenner? He's a great bloke! Always have a laugh ha ha Smile

So Jamez, you don't have anything constructive to say? Just slagging things off? Why not add what you would like to see (in Presentation terms) on Grandstand. I know the new Director of Grandstand views these pages

In my view, if any new forum needs to be created it's a 'Computer Related' forum

I still cannot see the facination with news presentation.
That's your opinion and that's fair enough but it doesn't mean no-one else on the forum wants to talk about it!

They'll be no news forum at this time.

Cheers, Asa

Indeed Asa - don'tcha just love democracy!? Wink

I quote from Arnold J. Rimmer - 'The problem with democracy is that every stupid bugger gets a vote'

Aren't I allowed to slag things off? after all if it wernt for us lot forking out over £100 each year, you people at the BBC would be outta the job, and you will all come crashing down from your high horses!

If the BBC was actually any good at something, I would be the first to praise it. But its not - take for instance its Saturday night television line up on BBC1...

Generation Game - very tacky and out of date!

Friends like these - appeals only to a minority audience

National Lottery Jet Set - 35 minutes of sub-standard game show with lottery draw at end

Casualty - Medical Drama (one of the BBC's few popular programmes)

Randall and Hopkirk - How a second series of this was commisioned I DO NOT KNOW!

Parkinson - BBC Were so desperate for viewers, they revived this 70s chat show

Then a film, followed by 2 hours of repeats of programmes shown earlier in the week.

*sigh* - who on earth decides what programmes are shown? Some new-age 50 year old who has spent the last 20 years travelling Russia in a camper van, and has gotton so out of touch that he is ideal to work for the BBC?

Oh, and to work for the Beeb, everyone needs to have a severe attitude problem *Jamez waves to his future employers!* Wink

Excuse me, but I happen to like Parkinson, I think Michael is the best chatshow host around!!

Actually Jamez, you couldn't be further from the truth! You have to look at things objectively to get anywhere in this game, not blinkered.

But heay, I still don't see a 'Jamez's guide to a better Grandstand'. Seriously, the Director is trying all sorts of stuff - some good, some bad and needs feedback from his captive audience. As I say, he reads this forum, so get scribbling! Smile

First off - get a new studio

Get some new presenters (preferably female and good looking)

Give it a modern look, and make it more interactive (for non digital viewers) ITV1's Goal Rush is excellent for on screen information and stats.

Jazz up the Grandstand theme tune, and use it more often, pick up the pace of the whole thing, perhaps have music playing underneath the studio presenters which gives the impression of fast moving action etc.

and remember, not all Grandstands veiwers are over 50 and are sitting in their armchairs with a can of lager while the wife does knitting. Young people like me also watch it too, which means it needs to move away from that stuffy blokey-ness that the programme has got now.

They did, and very nice it is too.

Can't argue with you there.

Nice idea but people would complain. Sad

Only the same deaf people who complained about the noisy BBC News music.

Why deaf people buy televisions I do not know - perhaps it gives them something to do while not polishing their ear trumpet!!! Wink

Didn't Final Score actually have music playing in the background on the first programme, but stopped it because too many people compained?

I remember it was on Points of View and ol' Tel said that the people that oversee the programme are 'trying out new things and welcome your input.'

Obviously works. Smile

Jamez, your entries are incredulous! Do you live on the same planet as the rest of us?
