Anyone manage to see The Secret Life Of Bob Monkhouse on BBC4?
I found this programme to be very interesting, Bob Monkhouse had around 7 VHS recorders at his home, and had around 50,000 VHS tapes with his own recordings of himself plus other comedy programmes etc.
Yes I saw this the first time round and it was a very interesting programme, not only to see the archive footage but how he corrected the exact start and end times in the TV Times and the shed he built to store all of his video tapes.
Especially moving piece near the end by Joe Pasquale also.

Hi, yes, quite amazing about the editing on his editions of the TV Times.
I always thought that Bob was a remarkable gentleman, and loved him on The Golden Shot, Celebrity Squares and Family Fortunes.
Ask folks about famous celebrity interviewers on TV, and most will come up with Michael Parkinson, he was good, don't get me wrong, but I thought that Bob Monkhouse was just as good, if not better, but that's my opinion of course and many will disagree. But of course he will be remembered as a great writer, comedian and game show host.

Has all his tapes been sorted out yet? and has he been able to plug many gaps in BBC and ITV archive?

Good point, Kaleidoscope are looking after his belongings, and some fan clubs of Frankie Howerd and Tony Hancock have been jumping for joy, as they had thought that lost material pertaining to their favourites had been lost forever.

Lenny Henry's happy though. His very first New Faces appearance has appeared.
You must admit Bob was a master of live tv as the clips of the Golden Shot showed.
What a shame Im too young to remember original transmission as I would have been 4 in 1975!

Reminded once again of that time in 1996 when the Lottery machine broke down and Bob just casually walked onto stage hand in trouser pocket, sent up Dedicoat's instructions and said "we'll get you the results during Casualty".
I completely missed this when it was on. Spotted it on iPlayer and thought I'd give it a view - I'm very glad I did. Fascinating documentary.
Michael Grade suggested Bob's collecting was a bit obsessive and perhaps so, but it has ultimately meant that footage and audio of shows thought to be lost forever has been able to be shown again - to the joy of fans and importantly those involved.
Even his logging of TX times / participants in TV Times listings, which I think Grade in the documentary saw as pointless, could actually prove invaluable to updating and amending entries in film & TV databases, for example. And of course, one hell of a feat in itself to have kept on top of such records; maintaining and organising them as he did with his many pages of jokes.
