What can you pick up without a subscription to Sky?

Is it worth buying one cheap from a car boot sale?

What do I need to check is included, apart from the dish and decoder?

Confused

Analogue's being switched off in September.

Graeme, I don't want to sound bossy but I think it's better if you keep these sorts of questions in links related to the subject - like your previous thread relating to channels. It just saves people going in and out of threads all the time.

Just an idea.

Hi Graeme

I'm a very happy bunny with an ancient cheapo ex-Sky Analogue system still watching all the free stuff from Germany, Luxembourg etc. Gems include MTV Germany (recently they took the Videocrypt flag off so the decoder no longer scrambles it!), Viva TV (music), plus loads of interesting arts, movies, more music, sport, sometimes clear NHK (Japan) etc etc ooh! look at Arte for instance - it can help to follow a bit of German but TV is so visual Very Happy - also, you can twist the dish round to HotBird for another bunch of stuff.

Dunno why people say 'give up, it's all over' - that's just the Sky stuff which has already nearly all gone - the transponders are being re-hired by new stations and i'd expect to continue using this kit for several years yet. Strong signals and excellent picture quality.

Go for it - broaden the horizons!

Can you get any Danish (Denamrk) tv channels?

Hi Martin

No Danish channels there - i think you'd need to point to Thor (which if i remember correctly needs a somewhat larger dish in the UK) - but please check the sources, my memory isn't too reliable!
