I always use to like B4 but that didn't last to long.

Sony hardly need 3 music channels playing all playing the same stuff?

I suppose the future was always going to be beak for channels showing music videos. There are just better ways of doing it in a connected media landscape.

I used to watch a lot of music television, from TMF and The Hits, when I had freeview to The Box, Scuzz, CSTV et al when I installed a dish. These days, not so much.

The countdown-heavy format that most of these channels settled for in recent years is vastly inferior to the old jukebox style channels that CSTV's competitor EMAP pioneered. I suppose we have BluePeter and GMTV to thank for the demise of that format.

YouTube is by far the better platform for watching music videos and it's where the target audience of these channels live.

Was Scuzz one of those 3 music channels that Sky launched and included The Amp?

The Amp was probably my favourite music chanel, though it didn't last long and the only thing I remember is that they were always playing either The Fear by Ian Brown or Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalaunches. Both great videos but not after youve seen them so many times

The Amp under Sky’s ownership was a very good music channel. Unfortunately any channel that was quite indie in its style never lasted long also, see VH2, and to a lesser extent Q.

I think it's to do with the genre, it's quite niche by its very nature. For instance, you don't get many (if any) national indie chain bars. People like prefer local rough and ready bars. I don't mean that disparagingly, it's just I think it's something that's quite difficult to exploit commercially.

Uproar from some Scuzz/MTV Rocks fans on Twitter today as MTV Rocks has been replaced by VH1 Christmas. Strange that they’d launch VH1 Christmas as usually MTV Xmas replaces MTV Classic towards the end of November, unless we’re going to have both this year.

Yeah, MTV Rocks has now become VH1 Christmas due to the main channel being fully-entertainment now, and later in the month MTV Classic will become MTV Xmas (which I would have thought would happen with MTV OMG since that’s been the rebrand channel mainly this year).

I know MTV Classic usually rebrands to MTV Christmas, but I don't ever remember VH1 rebranding to VH1 Christmas in the past (I only recall VH1 Classic rebranding to VH1 Christmas before it became MTV Classic).

From the BARB viewing figures, it was the worst performing of the CSC music channels.

From the weekly Top 10 programmes, the highest rating programmes typically got around 4-5,000 viewers.

As a comparison:
Chart Show TV and Chart Show Hits: typically ~20,000
The Vault: typically ~20,000, but up to ~40,000

VH1 did rebrand last year (the reason why the branding exists), I don’t think they did before that, they just played festive shows and music.

The reason why the branding exists is that VH1 Classic used to always rebrand to VH1 Christmas (before it was rebranded to MTV Classic), so it sounds like they've resurrected the brand, which is a bit unnecessary now that they've got MTV Christmas as well.
