This probably isn't worth a new thread, so i thought it would fit in this thread nicely since Charlie Brooker made such a big deal of it.
The whole 'Credit Squeeze' idea surely is 100% ratings driven. In other words they don't want people turning to other channels, so try to keep them in.
Why should any beeb channel need to do this? Surely the whole point of license fee paid channels is that they avoid marketing bulldecrap like this? The beeb shouldn't have to worry about ratings enough to have to do credit squeezes.
Well they'd argue it's about informing licence fee payers what they are spending their money on!
Anyhow, going way off topic but just been covered in the usual throw away manner we expect from Points of View - just mentioning how action continued behind the credits in Cranford but as usual, moving on with nothing but a flippant comment.

But it's having the opposite effect. Myself and others on MHP now report they are switching over as soon as they hear the first notes of the closing music, to avoid the promotion.

ITV introduced the first ECPs at the end of 2000 and BBC1 followed like sheep. Baaa. And then - so did C5, spoiling the long-awaited opportunity to finally watch the end credits of Home And Away. The BBC should indeed not be so ratings-driven as to consider this necessary, BUT the corporation is run by marketing people who think they know best.

I think you need to ask people who watch TV
not
for the pres to claim it's having the opposite effect. At all.

Is the promotion really *that* unbearable to watch?
Probably not a great surprise, but it we've got a Screenwipe review of the year to look forward to over the festive period...
Charlie Brooker posted:
· This week Charlie watched what felt like the entire year's worth of television in preparation for his Screen Wipe review of 2007: "It was like being a crap Doctor Who: I didn't go back very far and I achieved nothing."

Most people don't watch TV for the pres - granted. But they are no less annoyed by end credit promotion, as the POV board proves.
