Brilliant way to finish - because the credits had effectively been run at the start of the show (in the whole ECP > Ident > Prog spoof which was fab), when it reached the end Charlie just said bye - and that was it, just a straight cut to a trail before the next prog!

Actually he said, "As the credits have been run I'll dump you back to BBC Four" and cut straight to a trail, no black or fade.
Brilliant. Kept me watching throughout the junction in case anything else happened!

Yup, I was indeed aware of that. I wasn't actually quoting it!
I know they were going to blather over him as usual last week to make the point about credits, but I'm surprised they actually let him end the programme in that way. I can feel a new channel tagline coming on...
"BBC Four. Everybody needs a place to violate credit guidelines."
I'm really starting to warm to Barry Sh!tpeas, he's obviously destined for big things.
Great episode this week, laughing throughout. I could watch him watching ads all day!
The start and abrupt end were brilliantly done (right down to showing the BBC logo on the opening titles of 'A history of corners'!) and Charlie did make arguably the main point for not having ECPs, in that credits act a breather between programmes.
I still maintain that if they have to, ECPs and credits can co-exist well without having credits squeezed into a small box if only so bright spark at Red Bee would come up with a design.

Somehow I think Charlie may have sparked an idea.. Run credits at the start, then again they used to do that in films pre-60's
"BBC Four. Everybody needs a place to violate credit guidelines."
I do wish the BBC would stop calling them "guidelines" when clearly they are not. These are RULES, plain and simple. The word guidelines implies advice and recommendation, but not compulsion.
If they really were guidelines, Charlie Brooker would not have needed to shout and scream so because he'd have simply chose to ignore them. That is the worst part of the new "guidelines" - removing the producer's right of veto.
Ironic, however, that Charlie chose to use Rentaghost as an example of the credits being part of the viewing experience. It was repeats of Rentaghost in 1991, as part of The 8:15 From Manchester, which incurred the first (known) credit squeeze on the BBC.
