1.Hire new announcers (more upbeat)

And what's wrong with them? They sound damn fine to me...

2.Update their idents

What needs updating perhaps is their pres policy; a few weeks ago, STV showed Ant and Dec before the John Pilger documentary. How inappropriate was that? At least network showed the news ident.

3.Show the ITV brand a bit more.

Erm...why?

4.Don't let GTV and STV run down like UTV has..

Have to confess I haven't seen UTV for ages now, but not only are they one of two independent franchises they're also the only one in profit. Doesn't sound like a run-down station to me.

Presentation- wise not Financial-wise.

And what I meant on point number 1 is there is a female announcer on Scottish TV who talks like she is depressed. But there is another announcer called Jim (forgot his surname) which is quite good.

There seems to be some sort of tech problem tonight. Some strange green lines appear before network shows start. Also the now, next and later slide at the end has a sort of interference on it - is it just Grampian?

I've been getting it on cable on Scottish in Edinburgh.

Sounds like Jim Symon, who's been there since the 1980s. There's another more authoratative guy - anyone know his name? The female announcer is Kate Fraser (I think), ex-Grampian.

Well it can't be Brian Ford he is just so bored and can't be bothered. At 8 It's the Bill at 9 It's something else and now it's who cares you just want to shake him.

Kate has quite a shaky voice sometimes and sounds quite nervous she has the most annoying habit of saying "Meanwhile" and sometimes can't talk to time .Can't they try and boost their scripts and style a little even when they do try to more coversational it just doesn't sound right they don't seem to connect and lift the words off the script .I did think that when Bobby Hain took over there he would have a clean out .Guess they just don't give a damn what it all sounds like infact it used to be that old crabbie guy Steve Dunlop who was incharge of their department of course he was head engineer and knew NOTHING about voices, says it all about cowcaddens it's realy not like the old days.

Yes Jim has been there since the 80's although in the 90's he took a long break from continuity and was a TC he only came back late 2000 freelance when STV gave their pres dept a shakeup he took a pay off from them i think.

Who does the tutting - Kate?? Of all the announcers Grampian had I felt she was one of the poorest! Diana Speed (now radio 4??) was a far better announcer.

I have heard actually that Scottish TV actually WILL be re-branded after all. Executives met in Glasgow yesterday.

From 1st April 2005, Scottish Television will be re branded as.............

NANJIANI-VISION

Even THAT would be better than becoming ITV1 Scotland. (Shades of Consignia here, methinks.........)

What does NANJIANI-VISION mean, anyone. ANd is this a ture rumour or is someone taking the p*ss Smile

I have made a petition ,for those who share the view that Scottish TV branding is long passed it's sell by date, to sign. If this applies to you please visit http://www.petitiononline.com/stv12004/ and sign the petition. Once there are enough signatures the petition will be presented to SMG Plc.

Thinking about it, SMG introducing "ITV1 Scotland" branding will probably never happen. Especially now that ITVplc exists. Presumably ITVplc owns copyright for any "ITV(1)" orientated name, so even if SMG wanted to use "ITV1 Scotland", they probably couldn't.

The only way that "ITV1 Scotland" will come about is if/when either (A) SMG sells Scottish and Grampian to ITVplc, or (B) ITVplc takes over the whole of SMG. One imagines it is very likely that one of those scenarios will happen eventually.

So, either ITVplc will own the two regions and call them "ITV1 Scotland", or SMG will continue to own them, and retain the Scottish/Grampian names.

Petitioning, say, SMG to "hurry up and sell off Scottish/Grampian to ITVplc" would be the sort of thing that would make the most sense for a pro-"ITV1 Scotland" person, such as yourself, to do. But petitioning SMG to adopt "ITV1 Scotland" branding themself is probably futile.
