Scottish TV to ITV1 Scotland - The Petition

So you don't want the ITV brand to be more prominent, you want STV/Grampian to take the network promos, and stick a Scottish TV/Grampian TV logo on? There's nothing wrong with that, though there must be better solutions.

We are a nation and and most people in Scotland like NI identify with the Grampian/ Scottish and UTV brands NOT ITV.The only ITV branding we realy see is for ITV 2 and 3 if a network promo for ITV 1 is aired SMG edit the ITV 1 part out . I'm not saying it won't happen but it's not going to be as easy as they think if it was don't you think SMG (Scottish Meangie Group) would have just renamed the Grampian operation Scottish TV it would save them a fortune but the brown stuff would hit the fan if they tried it and the suits at SMG towers know that .

Realy everyone i know both in and out of the business refers to Scottish TV as STV,even after the brand changed 20yrs ago to Scottish Television.In North Scotland viewers do not call Grampian ITV 1 i can just hear the good folk in Stornoway and Shetland saying oh lets see what's on ITV 1 NOT !!!! .Yes i do agree that things have changed since the SMG takeover both stations are shadows of their formerselves as are most of the English regions but i wouldn't exactly say they are "crumbling" as for "ITV 1 Wales" well i would say that Wales tends to go along with England in most other things such as law and education and i'm surprised at them letting ITV in London dictate to them and axe the HTV brand in favour of ITV 1 they are supposed to be a nation.Long live Scottish/Grampian and UTV .

You say that but look at the second rate continuity on ITV 1 Wales a local announcer is there in Cardiff but the continuity is pre recorded .No thanks !!!!

As much as I dislike the idea of a homogeneous ITV1 Scotland, and much much prefer the distinct Scottish (STV) brand; the issue is complicated by the fact that Cowcaddens has churned out some of the *worst* promotions material I've ever seen.

In years gone by there have been moments I have slapped my hands over my face in horror during a movie trail on STV. They can make even the best blockbuster look awful - using the worst clips, whilst doing the corniest v/o.

I have no idea how much promotional material is generated in Glasgow now - weren't the promo staff cleared out some months ago?

With a clean feed available they should make a big push to polish up the stations outputs - Grampian and Scottish - to help to reinforce the brands for the 21st century.

Well Enzo Facchini who was head of promotions at STV got his marching orders a couple of yrs ago.Lesley and the other remaining Promo Producer at STV were laid off and finished up on Hogmany last year.As far as i know STV get the promotions packaged from the NPU without voiceovers and the SMG announcers voice the promos with the exception of Scotsport etc where the Presenters voice those.

I would rather have a Scottish voice anyday on the promos than an English one.NO disrespect but it is Scottish TV and Grampian TV we are talking here .How many Scottish voices do you hear on the NPU trailers none i know that they have a Scottish announcer on ITV 1 but they are serving the Border region and that's as it should be.

I have heard actually that Scottish TV actually WILL be re-branded after all. Executives met in Glasgow yesterday.

From 1st April 2005, Scottish Television will be re branded as.............

NANJIANI-VISION

Even THAT would be better than becoming ITV1 Scotland. (Shades of Consignia here, methinks.........)

You really are a pedantic so and so.

I think the ITV 1 on air brand in Scotland would be huge mistake especially in the North.Although i live in South Scotland i can't get Scottish TV instead we get an English orientated service from Border.Yes they use the arugment of providing a Scottish optout which is an after thought in my opinion and very poor.

ITV 1 relaunched on Monday with their new idents and look etc and the Border Scotland service were still airing the old news ident to link to Scotsport.It just amazes me that the announcing team in London can't come up with a change of script for the Scottish opt out.They have been using the same scripts for the past five yrs and it so bad and sounds realy naff ."Whatever the game we always know the score in Scotsport" and as if that's not bad enough "Serving the whole of our region your with Border " what a nerve the whole of our region except South Scotland .

They think because they have a couple of Scottish News readers on Lookaround and one Scottish reporter they can provide a great service for South Scotland the best service they could give South Scotland is to hand it over to Scottish TV.

They don't use the Scottish optout to it's full potential we usually get Scotsport and a filler programme to slot us back into ITV 1 and of course they let us join STV on Hogmany how kind of them.

The above points all relate the importance of keeping the Scottish and Grampian TV brands strong in Scotland.I can't see ITV delivering much for Scotland if they relauch as ITV 1.Local announcers would be the first to go i suspect and you'd get all those English announcers trying to pronunce Gaelic programmes,and that's if they continue to even broadcast them .No Scottish and Grampian TV names must stay.
