I'm attempting to watch Emmerdale on Scottish via DTT in Edinburgh.

The first half of the programme was audio only with a freeze frame from the start of the ads shown after end of part one.

The last ad in the sequence was for Vauxhall and on the final frame the picture has frozen again yet we hear Emmerdale audio perfectly.

No answer from Cowcaddens switchboard, despite hanging on for 10 minutes.

Who else can see this?

I called Grampian one time a few months back with the same problem.......the phone rang for 25 minutes before I gave up. I sent them an email the next day saying how I had been trying to get through and they replied saying so many people were trying to get through at the same time they could not cope with the calls...........I cant see that can you??

I've heard about an incident on Grampian last year where North Tonight was off air for the first ten minutes. After a period of blank screen, the Cowcaddens-based transmission staff eventually realised there was a problem and slapped up a caption. Whereas if Grampian still had their own transmission suite, it would no doubt have been spotted much sooner.

Sorry, but I would bet good money on that being absolute Luxton pigswill. Yes, having a joint continuity system may damage the quality of output. No, looking at two output screens instead of one does not add a significant delay to putting up fault captions.

Perhaps I am wrong here, but I think I'm right.

Well, the problem last night wasn't localised to Edinburgh as my colleague in Fife asked me this morning whether it was his DTT box playing up. He was unplugging and re-scanning and couldnt make sense of why he had a static video image.

I called Cowcaddens at 10pm when the problem manifested itself again. "Security" answered the phone and the chap said he had "just started on backshift and had heard there were problems". He was perfectly nice and polite but couldn't tell me more than the problem had been identified and attempts were being made to fix it.

I gave up on "Celebrity Surgery" and stuck on a DVD instead.
