A move to ITV1 Scotland may be the most practical - idents provided by ITV PLC, which makes sense with SMG having ditched their ident people.

As for Grampian? This might be heresy, and I'm not convinced of the idea myself, but would it make that much difference if it was switched to simply be called STV? Grampian is an inaccurate name (Inverness certainly isn't in the old Grampian authority), and a clumsy and old-fashioned one. And let's face it, the generic adverts, the inability of continuity announcers to say their own channel's name as they are serving two channels - it's a mess. As much as I'd like to see every station retain its own name for old time's sake, I could see why SMG might switch it - if it wasn't so politically dangerous. Opinions are welcome though.

STV does NOT cover all of Scotland they are the regional broadcaster for central Scotland.Look at Border TV the Isle Of Man is no where near the Borders.

No matter what you think Grampian is a much stronger brand than ITV 1 or STV in North Scotland just as STV is the stronger brand in the central belt .STV rebranded to Scottish Television 21 years ago and the Thistle appeared for the first time.Over two decades later most of the people i know still refer to the channel as STV NOT ITV or Scottish TV.

Everyone I know call it ITV or ITV1. Again, SMG or any other company aren't going back to 'STV'. It's an old brand name, they're not going to want to change it back. As a previous poster says, SMG are probably waiting for ITV plc to take over.

I'm NOT saying i want it to be called STV.What i am saying is most people i know call the channel STV i have never heard anyone call it ITV 1.ITV perhaps.Ask your average viewer in the street what they call their local ITV station in central Scotland they would mostly all call it STV or Scottish .At the end of the day they can call it what they want and they have done but most people i know in and out of the business call the channel STV.Even the employees call it STV .

I can certainly vouch for that, the people in the STV region I know all call the channel either "STV" or "Scottish STV" which seems to be quite a common one. Now they'll use those names interchangeably with "ITV" (although never ITV1) but then that's always been the case all over the UK, even long before the stations started gobbling each other up.

Never known anyone actually say "ITV1". Round where I live it seems to be (in order of frequency) ITV/Channel 3/Tyne Tees.

TBH I've mentioned the name ITV1 to a couple of people in passing in the past and they've both looked at me funny for a second before the penny dropped.

The ITV1 branding has conspicuously failed to resonate with viewers in my experience. When more people, even younger ones, call the local station "Tyne Tees" when that name hasn't been used regularly in years, than ITV1 which is current, and has been for some time, you know something is wrong.

STV may be an older brand than Scottish TV, but it's a better one, as proven by the fact that everyone calls the station STV. No-one I've ever known has ever called it Scottish TV.

There's a reason why most channel names are quite simple and to the point (eg BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, Five, ITV2, Sky One) - in these days of multi-channel offerings you want the easiest to pronounce, memorable name possible.

Scottish TV is too clunky, and as for Grampian TV - well just listen to the announcers trying to pronounce it (when they actually do different continuity).

Was it an ITV or SMG menu? Maybe we're getting closer to ITV1 Scotland.

Neither. It was an ITV1 menu.

I deliberately said ITV as I was referring to the company, not the channel.
