Come on BBC Scotland, next year make sure you get the live matches before Setanta's £6 a game nonsense and get the highlights too. Nothing beats the BBC Sport Scotland coverage of a football match.
I'm sure someone posted a thread saying that Grampian was getting a new look but it never came.
Page 23 of Grampian's Annual Report 04/Preview 05 said that North Tonight was to relaunch, not Grampian get a new look. As I don't live in that region and they don't show North Tonight late night on STV anymore, I can't tell you if this has happened or not.
Just to clarify: they said it, I just passed it on. Look at the document for yourself. It's a PDF file and it's here.
No there is no new look North Tonight yet although Grampian used to change the look of NT in September (after the summer edition) years ago.....so you never know!!! It is in need of a major makeover - the last makeover it received was when they moved from Queens Cross but they only tweeked the music and the set kept the same colours.
I saw the Brian Burnett ident again .They axed Scottish Passport over a year ago. They are still using the Katie and Andy ident from Emmerdale how long have they been apart and they get good use out of the ident of Zoe from Emmerdale too (she leaves soon) i hope someone from Granada bothers to tell SMG this.
They also use the Martin Kemp one alot .Does he still work at ITV : .The whole on air look is very tired .
They have been using the SMG presenters a lot recently, almost as if they don't know who is still with ITV network-wise. It does appear that SMG are just plodding along, waiting to be taken over by ITV PLC, but that that process has taken a bit longer than expected.
A move to ITV1 Scotland may be the most practical - idents provided by ITV PLC, which makes sense with SMG having ditched their ident people.
I'd hate to see it though. With SRH being sold to EMAP, and Newsquest snapping up the Evening Times and The Herald, SMG are the only major media company in Scotland owned in Scotland. And this would be a further stepping stone to losing that.
Ideally I'd prefer to see SMG make an effort, rebranding Scottish TV to STV (because no-one ever calls channel 3 in Scotland Scottish TV - it's either STV or ITV). They could either continue to use the four boxes, with a Grampian style Scottish flag in the fourth, or make a new ident package, with the saltire to the forefront, and scenes mixing metropolitan and rural Scotland (so like the package before the current one, but good). Sod the thistle - it has connotations of all the usual stereotypical highland dance kilt-wearing nonsense that most of Scotland hates. That would be a substantial step backwards.
As for Grampian? This might be heresy, and I'm not convinced of the idea myself, but would it make that much difference if it was switched to simply be called STV? Grampian is an inaccurate name (Inverness certainly isn't in the old Grampian authority), and a clumsy and old-fashioned one. And let's face it, the generic adverts, the inability of continuity announcers to say their own channel's name as they are serving two channels - it's a mess. As much as I'd like to see every station retain its own name for old time's sake, I could see why SMG might switch it - if it wasn't so politically dangerous. Opinions are welcome though.

I'm sure in 10 years time, it will be ITV1 Scotland - but I hope it's sooner. SMG are never going to make an effort into local presentation (or presentation at all) and it seems completely pointless having 'Scottish TV' or 'Grampian TV' branding when it's ITV idents. Local presentation isn't coming back to ITV1, networking is the way forward. Of course I would like to see every region with their own presentation, but they days are gone and unfortunately they ain't coming back!
EDIT: Also, I pray to God it never gets called STV again. It just sounds so 70s.
