Yes, you all rekoned ITV1 Scotland was only a short amount of time away, when in reality, the look SMG have gone with is much less-ITV1 than UTV's efforts.

It doesn't mean it's not. Don't forget that this look was sanctioned by SMG. But it's pretty likely that SMG's control of Scotish and Grampian will not last much longer (i'll be amazed if it makes it to the end of the year actually). Jim Hynter has said that he wants an ITV1 Scotland just like he has his ITV1 Wales, and once Scottish and Grampian are under his care, you can bet that's exactly what he'll implement.

Well I don't think thats a good idea. I dunno about proper viewing figures but I'd probably say that more people would choose to tune into Grampian than say BBC ONE in terms for local news etc because it's so local. I mean just seeing your local ads on TV is quite a feeling and a rebrand to say ITV1 Scotland takes that local feel away from it all.

Yes, as I mentioned on another thread on the pre-crash forums, I prefer North Tonight to Reporting Scotland in a number of ways, because it's more local. For example, my own island I live on (one of the Orkney islands) has appeared a few times on the programme, but I've never seen it on Reporting Scotland! Also, up here in Orkney, we're not always all that interested in news from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and would prefer something more local. But it's only a matter of time until ITV1 Scotland comes along and Grampian is just a memory...

Who knows. I know I won't be too impressed if it all goes to ITV 1 Scotland.

Tampering with the Grampian and Scottish names on screen will spell diasaster for Jim Hynter .

He will have the biggest fight on his hands he has ever had .

Local MSP's are keeping a very close eye on things - they have been on SMG's back from day one since they took over Grampian .

I mean lets be honest if SMG had there way they would call both stations Scottish TV it makes sense and would be a lot easier but they know the grief they would get if they even tried it.

Don't underestimate things up here in Scotland we don't give in that easy you know .

Jim Hynter and ITV 1 Scotland dream on !!!

I could see perhaps leeway if it was perhaps ITV1 Scotland and ITV1 Grampian. But even then I think it would be pusing it

ITV1 Scotland will never happen. It would require a change in the law (and approval from Westminster) to do away with Grampian and the Scottish part of Border, and even if the new regulations permit this I can't see it getting the go-ahead. IMO, the closest we'll see to it is Border Scotland being absorbed by Scottish if SMG are bought up; getting rid of Grampian as well would be a step too far.

Jim Hynter would do well to remember the old saying regarding manners which is taught in primary school:

"I want, never gets".

So he can dream about an ITV1 Scotland all he wants; it ain't gonna happen!

Very Happy

ITV1 Scotland is no problem at all. They don't have to do away with Grampian or the Scottish part of Border, all they have to do is make Grampian and Scottish both take on 'ITV1 Scotland' branding. Border would probably still be just ITV1, or they could make the Border Scotland opt take on 'ITV1 Scotland' permanently too.

Technically, Scottish, Grampian and Border would all still exist in Scotland, they would just 'choose' to brand themselves under a common identity.

The regulator will do nothing, saying that 'branding is up to the individual licensee'.

How else do you think Hynter got his national ITV1?

I agree that to have only 1 ITV station over the whole of Scotland would be hard to achieve, but to effectively have 1 ITV station over the whole of Scotland could happen tomorrow.

It's only because SMG's board ruled against it that ITV1 Scotland hasn't happened allready.

Similar things were said about ditching the HTV brand in Wales. And Carlton also received a fairly heavy blugeoning from local authority figures in the south west when they rebranded Westcountry. But it didn't stop it from happening, and it hasn't resulted in their return either.

The MP's in Scotland can shout as much as they like, but they can't actually do anything about it. The only thing that will stop Hynter and his London-based cronies from rolling out ITV1 Scotland is if the advertisers say they'll boycott advertising on Scottish and Grampian if they rebrand, and that's just not going to happen.

I don't want it to happen, but it will. It's happened all over the rest of the UK, and if you think Scotland is immune you're very wrong.

I suppose we'll see "ITV1 Ulster" soon too?
