Probably more difficult to get BBC Scotland pictures - as they'd have to book a line from Glasgow to London, whereas to get them from Sky Sports you just record off-air from a Sky box.

There may also be News Access agreements that mean that Sky Sports is the better source to show from, as they were carrying the game nationally.

There are all sorts of "off-air" rules regarding sports access - meaning that even if you have internal clean-feeds coming into the BBC, you have to use the off-air pictures from another broadcaster in your news coverage if they are the primary rights holder.

There was a line from Glasgow for the Scotland v Japan game, but it cut off around 1.45 or so, during the build-up for the cup final. Possibly not worth keeping it up for just the news people when they could get footage off Sky anyway?

Yep - and I suspect news access for the UK means the Beeb should use Sky Sports anyway - as they broadcast it nationally.
