I understand the reasons why BBC can't show the Scottish Cup Final on an FTA channel, but is there any reason why they couldn't show a film or some other programmes rather than treat all DSat viewers in Scotland to this:

....for 5 hours !!!!!!!! Confused Confused Confused

Of course they could've always watched the English Cup Final, which for some reason is available to everyone Shocked

it's because the game is only licenced for broadcast in scotland. therefore they have to pull it from sky

Sky Sports where showing it on Sky and must have exclusive rights to show it to England, Wales and NI.

seems pretty obvious that its down to the scottish fa rather than bbc scotland. but yes, i think putting the english cup final on with a caption overlaid would have been preferable to 5 hours of that caption.

I understand the reasons, but it is ridiculous at a time when people are being encouraged to make the switch to digital - this can't continue surely when the analogue signal is turned off!

Also noticed earlier today BBCi screened coverage of Japan and Scotland from BBC Scotland on Freeview, but the feed didn't continue for the Scottish Cup final.

Well that was just wrong! As a Hearts fan I was looking forward to seeing the match. My subcription upgrade to Sky Sports didn't activate in time, in fact its only just come through.

Hi im new to this site and only 15 so i dont no everything to do with tv like licensing etc. I think the reason of this ould be to do with licensing but anyway, why is it that bbc news had pictures of the match from sky sports eventhough bbc scotland did. I would have thought that it would cost more to get the pictures from sky rather than use their own which surely would be free.
Thanks, Jonny

News organisations can use short snippets of sports coverage free of charge, regardless of the source. It's all governed under the Sports News Access Code of Practice.

ahh. thank you. i wasnt aware of that. but i still think it would be easier for them just to use bbc footage!

He does have a point though, it looks pretty crap taking news pictures of this match from the Sky coverage when their own company covered it. Also the Sky picture quality on the news was just awful step effects over all the straight lines etc yuk.
