The SNP expects that they will inherit all of BBC Scotland and a proportional share of BBC's commercial ventures, including BBC Worldwide. Presumably, they hope the SBS will also contribute a proportional amount of input into BBC Worldwide (i.e. sellable programmes).

The SBS will launch a new TV channel. The availability of existing BBC channels will be ensured by a joint-venture with the BBC. The option to opt out of BBC One and Two will remain. Of course, all of this remains uncertain as there will be no negotiations until after a yes vote.

That paper is a pile of rubbish, the SNP expects? This is just a manifesto for the SNP. Labour could win or someone else, and do something different.

Apparently...
Quote:
Funding for the SBS will come from Scotland's share of licence fee income (£320m a year) and BBC commercial arm BBC Worldwide's profits (£13m), plus £12m annually provided by the Scottish government for Gaelic broadcasting. It will not have to raise money from advertising, the SNP said.

Also mentioned was...
Quote:
The SNP said it would also seek an agreement with Channel 4 by the proposed start of independence for Scotland in 2016 to ensure the advertiser-funded public service broadcaster has "appropriate minimum level of original production, in terms of both value and hours, that reflects Scotland's population size".

Curious to know whether they'd actually have any rights to a share of BBC Worldwide's profits. I guess BBC Alba could easily be renamed 'SBS Alba' as I gather it's a joint venture. I doubt thought it would be as easy for SBS to take over BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal. In theory the BBC channels could still be available in Scotland via subscription.

No way should the SNP get their grubby mits on BBC Worldwide profits. Also don't see why C4 would want to play by their rules either.

All this Independence white paper is proving is that how much the SNP actually wants to remain part of Britain - they just can't admit it.

It's hilarious basically they want all the top BBC shows for basically nothing (oh the use of their resources Rolling Eyes ) and expect to keep all the Scottish licence fee too. You can tell the whole proposal was drawn up on the back of a fag packet.

Best idea leave the bbc as it is.

Some people here don't seem to realise what Independence means. The BBC would be an alien presence in an Independent Scotland and be subject to Scotland's laws. It's up to the BBC whether to accept any compromises offered or withdraw. Any commercial arrangements between the new Scottish PSB and the BBC will be that, nothing else.

Any BBC property involved in a transfer to the PSBS, as the BBC is a Quasi Government Body, would be subject to the overall Independence settlement, Rightly I would expect there to be no compensation payable by Scotland to the BBC for it. Any recovery of value would need to be through the UK Government.

License fees payable in Scotland would be distributed according to Scottish Law.

Any programme made in Scotland are already under the rule of Scottish law.

BBC stands as British broadcast corporation. Since we all live in the British isles I believe nothing needs to change. Glasgow has it own current affairs, comedy even short film.

Wrong Broadcasting is NOT devolved. It's subject to Westminster's decisions.

Thats still beside the point. Bbc makes Scottish programmes which are subject to Scottish law, yout never said broadcasting law Wink
It's not likely to change if we vote yes.

For years smoking was banned in tv studio In Scotland well before England.
