I used to remember on Scotland Today on the 6pm half hour evening bulletin when there used to be a 10 minute news bulletin with one newscaster reading the East of Scotland News, then the other newscaster presenting West of Scotland News.

After the news bulletin had finished, for the rest of the show there was a magazine section of the programme. With the weather presented during the show rather than being a separate broadcast after the show had finished.

Can anybody remember the arrangement.

As I recall they did 10 minutes or so on the big set with sofas in glasgow, then they did an east/west opt for 5 mins or so at least. They had VT reports in the East, but it was the same one or two reporters who seemed to cover everything.

The East opts came from the Gateway Studios on Leith Walk in Edinburgh. 2 mins walk from my flat. The studio was restored back to a theatre a couple of years ago, but I understand that Scottish still have an office/studio within and a line to Glasgow so they could return the service.

Dont think they will though. In the course of a Scotland Today their stories jump East, West, East etc all the way through.

Maybe some Sky Digital viewers could express an opinion of whether Scottish should have regional opts? Scottish TV have a bigger potential audience now than they've ever had. Smile

Also remembered when the East Coast newscaster as well as presenting the East's news at 6 on Scotland Today during a day's shift did reports at places like Newtongrange and Penicuik, and also Bathgate, Kirkcaldy, Dunbar and Edinburgh all in the very same day.

Must have clocked a fair few miles eh!

The thing I remember most is that the set was made from the same brown 'texture' wallpaper that I had in my bedroom. They pasted theirs on at a 45 degree angle but it was definately the same one!
