Why don't the BBC show schools programmes in a structured fashion anymore? They are hardly ever on. Where are they?

I think that the quality of the programmes has dropped so bad, that they dont show them as often as they did,say in the 80`s.Channel 4 Learning is better than it was, they may be getting more viewers.

BBC2 Schools programmes seem start at 10.50am and end at 12.30pm with an extra programme popped in about 1.20pm. It used to begin at bang on 9am until at least 2.30pm, but then again it was the only thing on BBC2 in those days. (The old Daytime on 2 slot!)
Like Channel 4, a lot of schools programmes are show back to back in the earlier hours of the morning in the Learning Zone. No doubt these are taped and show to the kids.

I loved these programmes a few years ago when I was in primary school. I also think that the ITV Schools on 4 graphics of 1987 should be brought back(especially as I haven't even got a video copy of the countdown).
Thing is though it suits teachers better to not have to bring kids in to watch a programme live, as was the case when I were a lad. I have heard teachers complain that programmes used to be on sometimes during breaks (playtime) which was a real problem!
Now that VCRs are widely available broadcasters can afford to put on schools programming at 3.00am. In fact, I don't know if you've noticed but a lot of series are played out on BBC2 continuously over the course of a night, allowing teachers to have a whole series on tape.
It might be disappointing to us as pres fans but as far as teachers are concerned the modern system is infinitely better!
Apparently the BBC's new digital kids channel (the older kids one as opposed to the tots one) will show some schools programmes during the day in term time. That's what I've heard, anyway...
The programmes shown on Channel 4 are better than the ones the BBC show. Boy are there some Schools programmes classics...
