With new season trailers already running on ITV1, I was wondering when the official date for the start of the "new season" is. By this I mean, when ITV & BBC start putting out their new stuff, when GMTV bring back Eamon and Fiona, when This Morning returns and Trevor McDonald comes back off his holiday.
The new season seems to be gradually easing itself in this year, as well as Pop Idol etc there's also the BBC's "The only place to be on a Friday night" programmes which start this Friday (one of which will probably be good, the other from the trailer sounds dire)

Do you think "Eyes Down" looks any good ? It looks like a poor version of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights to me. And why is it that Paul O'Grady seems to be Lily Savage in every role he plays ?

Well it's been slated everywhere I read except in the Daily Mail's TV Guide (dad gets it - I don't).

Well it looks better than "Trevor's World of Sport"!, we'll have to see
I watch Eyes Down and sat quietly throughout, it wasn't at all funny. The only time I laughed was right at the end where a man was singing karaoke and then his girlfriend joined in and burped. Her reaction "ooh sorr-eh, I've burped!" made me chuckle.
Eyes Down struck me as trying a bit too hard. They were trying to cram in as many jokes as they could in the half hour, so it got a bit tiresome after a while. And yes, it was a bit like a cross between a poor man's Phoenix Nights and Dinnerladies. In fact, the "Ironside" joke about the woman in the wheelchair was lifted wholesale from Phoenix Nights, wasn't it?
Trevor's World of Sport, though, I thought was really quite good. Written by Andy Hamilton of course, who's done a load of stuff for Radio 4 and is an excellent comedy writer, so I wouldn't expect anything less.
I expected Eye's Down to be quite funny but it wasn't really. Paul O'Grady wasn't anywhere near as good as he is in his act and Sheridan Smith is good in Two Pints.. but wasn't that funny in this.
And Trevor's World of Sport, well, it had a Fortysomething kind of feel to it!
Well, neither Paul O'Grady or Sheridan Smith had any decent lines to be honest, they didn't have a lot to work with. I mean, all she had to do was pretend to be unbelievably thick and look slightly gormless - it doesn't really stretch a proper actress that much. Surprised she went for the role, to be honest.
Trevor's World of Sport *was* a bit reminiscent of Fortysomething, now that I kind about it, except it didn't have that berk Hugh Laurie in it, which made it much more bearable. It was slightly less self-consciously quirky as well, I thought.

Yep, whilst it wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting it to be - 'Eyes Down' struck me as a Dinnerladies copy throughout (which ironically is currently going out in the 10 o'clock slot on BBC2).
I was also impressed with Trevor's World of Sport (good cast), which - although I haven't been watching very much TV of late, I've not seen trailed at all. Proves you can still enjoy comedy without needing to be prompted by a laughter track too.
