I thought about Mrs brown, but of course half this mugs are planned are there not? But whether what he actually says isn't. I think its a cross breed between backing the fourth wall and ab-libbing.

Most people on a panel show are off-script. ISO/slave cameras will be used on them for capturing reactions on those

You're getting into the realms of whether a mistake which caused laughter during writing/read-through/rehearsal is repeated as a "mistake", and whether the talent tells anyone on the crew they're going to do it. Audiences love seeing things they think are unintentional - even the glint in the eye of the cast looking like they might break.

Don't overthink it, because every performer has their own way of working their audience - you're not supposed to know.

And mugging *is* breaking the fourth wall.
