Alright, bear with me on this one.
These little... things scared the bejeezus out of me as a child, and so by extension did the titles.
I mean, what the hell are they? What are they?! . Don't tell me that if you saw one of these demonic imps scurrying across your path at night, you wouldn't run screaming for the hills.
Pootle was the worst.

Near enough the same but with an alternate theme, I believe this is a later variant:

I think there was about four or so variants of these over the years before they dropped it for the globe effect posted above.
I think some of the videos released towards the end of that era didn't use the end animation, just the glowing star and copyright date.
More of a closing sequence for me, and if you left the tape running to the very end...

Wasn't Sid Sutton behind those, who also designed the "neon" Doctor Who titles, hence the stars are very similar?

It was always this OU ident that scared me as a child.
I think the combination of a flying chevron and scary trumpet from Yorkshire TV scared some viewers too...

This used to spook me. Not the Anglia ident but the rest.

Whenever I hear the Anglia ident, an ear worm starts the TotU theme in my head

Decades on, this remains terrifying.
Not an opening sequence, but the old British Gas Cookability adverts used to give me the creeps - I found the stark blue flames/black background motif set against the jingle very eerie indeed... (if I'd been old enough to have remembered the Noel Edmonds version with a crowd singing along, it probably would have fixed it for me).

This opening sequence used to terrify me as a child -- and it's pretty obvious why:
