Oops, sorry about that. ITV seemed very interested but the chefs come first in their (cook) book! They're going to try out the idea at Granada America though so I'll earn a few bucks from that...cheers for the inspiration Laughing

I was thinking and came up with an idea to replace MTOS and Smile, have a 2 hour show on Sat/Sunday, it would be like L&K with a countdown of things to do on Saturday/Sunday eg Football/Tv ect. It would have a live band and the most important thing about it would be it has to be mature as kids dont like dumbing sown of things, they all want to be mature so why not. it would have presenters of the likes of Steve Jones, Simon Amstell, Alex Zane, Fearne Cotton ect and could incorporate CD:UK/ TOTP whatever channel it was on as it's easily transferable to itv and C4. NOBODY COPY THIS, because ive submitted this to BBC/ITV/C4/C5

****! I wish I had come up with that highly original idea first... Rolling Eyes

It was indeed genius. I hope he becomes very rich from his unbelievably authentic ideas.

Magazine programmes just don't work. They are history. Focussed programmes set in a genre are the future.

Think about it, in a multi-channel environment, magazine programmes are just too vague. Viewers can just go to what they want to watch, for example if you want cookery, there are a plethora of channels, if you want cartoons, you can watch a kids' channel. Unless magazine programmes stick rigidly to a schedule, it's hard to navigate and find what's interesting to you.

The days of just watching a programme for 3 hours and letting everything gloss over you are over. That's why the kids' saturday shows have been axed and why only This Morning remains as a daytime magazine show - purely because of its reputation.

So what about Soccer AM/Cricket AM - both magazine shows in their own right and very successful - SoccerAM now over 10 years old!!!! Other Magazine formats also include the teatime chat shows, Sunday AM (a mix of politics, current affairs, papers and entertainment), as well as GMTV (as a whole mix), BBC Breakfast. There are many more examples I could use that are wholly magazine based and not just based on one genre.

Also SMTV was successful - it was axed due to the picking of the new abysmal presenters at the time. (Would it still be here today if Stephen and Holly were presenting it - probably!!). Swap Shop and Saturday Superstore, as well as No73 and Tiswas could easily make a return and be successful. When ITV2 started there was a daily magazine called Bedrock which was succssful (so much so that it started eating into ITV1 viewing figures so the moved it to the weekend at an unwatchable time - afternoons!!!)

Hence, magazine formats ARE successful - for the correct mix you need it to be on at a decent vieweing figures time, with the right mix of presenters and guests and the right scriptwriters (and ad-libbers).

Don't forget that both Saturday Kitchen and Saturday Cooks are both actually magazine shows which has cookery, guests, chat, talk, and entertainment!!!!!
