Saturday Sportsday on BBC1 - not your normal BBC News sports bulletin - presenter Lizzie Greenwood Hughes presenting from the newsroom, lots of different angles, new titles etc. Appears its not really a bulletin at all, more a magazine programme. Seems to be a big focus on minority sports. No football, no cricket.

Not available on iPlayer (yet) but if you're quick you can rewind the live stream of BBC One and catch it there.

Presentation-wise, I think it looks typically poor. Lifeless music, bland titles, and the bright, open studio setting means the whole thing just doesn't feel vibrant enough. Probably not helped by the fact it follows straight after the glossy, HD-graphics-packed Football Focus.

They did give the scores out at the end, which probably makes sense as you've just had Football Focus just before and the if you give the scores out at the beginning they're probably going to have changed towards the end. She also did move to the studio after the introduction.

I thought Saturday Sportsday wasn't a bad effort. Since it's not a similcast of the news channel, I think they should try to use the official BBC Sport astons if they can. I wonder if these new titles will be used again for the evening Sportsday?

Here is the programme minus reports:

My god those titles look like a kind of bad youtube mock. The look terrible and is that actually title music or just an extension of the bed. With all this more and more Sports Programming on a Saturday is really making the axing of Grandstand seem pointless basically now they have Grandstand just with a programme sometimes stuck in the middle and no one brand.

Why didn't they use the existing Sportsday branding used on the News Channel? Makes more sense to tie and unify all the brands for a consistent and definitely more polished look.

Granted they're not the best titles in the world and the BBC News astons have always been nasty (though to be honest I'm tired of the BBC Sport ones too now) - but apart from that nothing to really complain about.

I'd be surprised if they don't revert to using the BBC Sport package soon.

Glad the BBC are listening to my ideas again anyway.

I found it an unnecessary filler. It felt like a programme just to fill up the hour.

Why the news cant be at 12.45 to backfill the hour I don't know. Or even extend Football Focus to an hour.

Because the BBC feels it has duty to inform viewers about other sport and minority sport in addition to the footie and what ever they might showing on a given Saturday. It also can also serve the purpose of a menu for the weekend's sport on BBC television, something they lost with the axing of Grandstand. It's a common sense idea.

It's no more filler than the News.

Great use of the sport newsroom, but appalling graphics and titles. Who on earth made those?! I know the main News Channel Sportsday ones aren't that great but these are really sub-standard.
