I see BBC One have a Graham Norton lead talent show starting a week on Saturday, "When Will I Be Famous ? "

An attempt to steal the thunder of Cowell's Britains Got Talent ?

When Will I Be Famous ?
Graham Norton introduces a host of talent from the UK and around the world including acrobats, contortionists, comedy turns, plus weird and wonderful speciality acts who all bring something new to the world of variety. Each act performs live in a series of head-to-head showdowns, with celebrity judges and a panel of viewers at home deciding which is best. The winners then go through to the final later in the evening when a public vote decides who will win the weekly 10,000 pound prize.

Rubbish. It attracted a series average of over 6 million viewers, against heavyweight opposition The X Factor. In these days of declining viewership, ITV would kill for its weekday 9pm drama series to have an average audience figure like that.

Last I heard, it started on well over 6 million, but the audience rapidly declined and by the end only had about 4 million "hitting all time lows" as Media Guardian put it

Oh yes, Dancing on Ice is such a family programme, whereas Strictly Come Dancing, which was watched by more people than The X Factor, a format almost identical that had the BBC taken legal action they would have had a high improbably of success, isn't a family programme. Bang! Got 'im.

Actually, X Factor and SCD were level this year. One week one would be in the lead and the next the other would be. The DOI format was announced at the end of 2004, so what do the BBC produce ... "Strictly Ice Dancing". ITV could have done something there. BBC also nicked the Fame Academy format. What is funny about ITV stealing SCD is that Dancing on Ice actually gets bigger audiences.

At the moment it is, but unlike a couple of years ago, ITV do not dominate Saturday nights they win. Saturday Night Takeaway used to blow anything it was up against away, but with Doctor Who and new format like Strictly Come Dancing, not any more.

BBC One was watched by more people last year than any other television channel, and is ahead week-by-week so far this year despite ITV's so-called Saturday night "triumphs". So yes, they are winning the ratings.

ITV are dominating Saturday night TV. You might not want to admit it but face it, they are. 3+ shows against one is hardly any competition.

You can call me and anyone else who likes Doctor Who as a quality sci-fi drama a geek if you like. But 8.2 million people watching a series finale in the sizzling heat of summer? 9.2 million people watching the recent Christmas special, thrashing Emmerdale which was on opposite? That is an awful lot of geeks, isn't it? Those are nothing but excellent ratings, and it IS one of the biggest shows at the moment, whether you like it or not, up there with the soaps and dramas like Waking the Dead.

I never actually said "all Doctor Who fans are geeks". I asked were you one. In all of your evidence you only used Doctor who, no other BBC Saturday night shows. The Christmas ratings were only as big as they were because it was highly publicised, and the new doctors assistant began. The series finale was watched by loads because Rose left. I don't deny that it is a high ratings show, but in the middle of the series, the ratings are just average for Saturday nights, getting 6-7 million.

You only seem to be able to use Doctor Who, and you will only use your best ratings in your argument, not also highlighting the lower or average ratings.

Graham Norton. Poor old BBC, they've got nobody else - well Patrick Keilty's back on the scene I suppose.

What are the BBC thinking on Saturday nights?!! What a dreadful schedule Weakest Link, My Family, National Lottery Show? Hvae they shown the white flag of surrender yet? So much for Doctor Who and Robin Hood, ITV have smashed them completly.

Robin Hood may not have done as well as expected but Doctor Who has been a huge hit and I think its beaten whatever ITV have put against it.

I've never been fond of Graham's work on the BBC. Bring him back to Friday nights on Channel 4!

No doubt Graham will be in line to host the Friday Night Project sometime in the future.

It looks like ITV will be cleaning up in the ratings from next week

6.40 Dancing on Ice
8.30 Pokerface

Not sure about these, what ITV really needs is a new show fronted by someone like, oh what was the name of that guy from Quizmania, er....you know......Greg someone?
