and what was "BBC's awful copycat version of You've Been Framed!" ?

I believe it was "Caught in the Act" didn't Shane Ritchie host ?

It was awful, compared to the then original incarnation of YBF with Jeremy Beadle on the revolving house.

As I recall, the revolving house wasn't the original set for YBF . IIRC, it was blue, silver and pink, with a large video
screen on the right, random video player symbols scattered around the backdrop, and a curved pink seating area.

As expected ITV managed to win Saturday night with the following ratings

6.10 Harry Hill's TV Burp - 5.6m (29%) - highest ever ratings
6.40 Dancing on Ice - 8.6m (39%)
8.30 Pokerface - 5.1m (22%)

No balance here I see...Pokerface got wasted by Casualty, which was watched by 7.5 million people.

ITV's equivalents, on the other hand, can more often than not be relied upon to be exciting, nerve-wracking, and not a carbon copy of each other.

Speaking about Saturday night on the whole, I can't think of a single programme on Saturday night BBC1 in recent years I've actually been excited about. ITV1, on the other hand, may be hit and miss, but when it's hit, it's fantastic. Think Takeaway, X Factor, even this new Al Murray thing, according to my dad. ITV really know how to put on a good show. The BBC, on the other hand, seem not to.

The ratings for BBC Saturday night programming year-long seem to indicate that you are firmly in the minority.

What are the BBC thinking on Saturday nights?!! What a dreadful schedule Weakest Link, My Family, National Lottery Show? Hvae they shown the white flag of surrender yet? So much for Doctor Who and Robin Hood, ITV have smashed them completly.

Thank God for ITV1. Pure genious schedules with Harry Hill, Dancing on Ice, Pokerface and Al Murray.

For many years ITV have struggled with their Saturday night schedules and I think Michael Grade has at last made a great input as Execuitve Chairman of ITV. I hope this improvement will continue and not just on Saturday nights. Lets have a revamp of the post 10:30pm news slot on ITV1 on weeknights which are currently dreadful. Does anyone agree?

how can you thank Michael Grade: he only started a few weeks ago,

all these programme would of have been commissioned Months ago for this time slot!

Doctor who only appears from April - July, and ITV does poorly then.

Yes, Michael Grade wouldn't have had any input with the current schedule, and it's all down to the new team installed last year, headed by Simon Shaps. I think the current Saturday night line-up is one of the best that ITV has had a in a long time.

You are a tit.

Winter is when ITV traditionally put out their main programming, so I have no idea what the hell you mean "ITV have smashed them completly". The difference is the BBC put out their main Saturday night programming at different times of the year, with greater success and consistency, and with Doctor Who, Robin Hood and Merlin, which is in development, also have a commitment to quality "three-generational" Saturday night drama, not just the odd thing like ITV's Primeval to try and emulate success not earned on the back off the success of Doctor Who (and given by some of the reviews I have seen of Primeval from those who have seen the preview DVDs and went to the press screening, something of a disappointment, but will no doubt attract healthy ratings if sandwiched in between the two Dancing on Ice shows, what would you expect from the chavs who watch ITV 24x7).

Despite all the spin from ITV, ably assisted by "Andrew", ITV are not dominating on Saturday as much as they would like. Casualty is on a roll at the moment, and is easily beating the latest Ant and Dec vehicle. Dancing on Ice is plagiarism extraordinaire, and when Doctor Who returns in late March/early April, ITV will be in trouble once again.

Robin Hood was a flop.

How can chavs be watching ITV on a Saturday night? Shouldnt they be out? Quite a lot of old people watch Dancing on Ice, so they are 80 year old chavs? Dancing on Ice is a family program quite a few families watch together. Are the 7 year old kids chavs? I think not ...

ITV still have 3 or 4 shows with good ratings, to the BBC's one show (if it actually is winning in the ratings) so they are leading more than you think.

Are you a Doctor Who geek? The ratings aren't *that* good. You go on as though it is the biggest show with the highest ratings on the BBC ever. And how do you know this year ITV won't surprise us in the spring/summer?

Thus where your argument falls flat on its face. When you have to resort to insulting ITV's viewers then you really are desperate.

Rubbish. It attracted a series average of over 6 million viewers, against heavyweight opposition The X Factor. In these days of declining viewership, ITV would kill for its weekday 9pm drama series to have an average audience figure like that.

Oh yes, Dancing on Ice is such a family programme, whereas Strictly Come Dancing, which was watched by more people than The X Factor, a format almost identical that had the BBC taken legal action they would have had a high improbably of success, isn't a family programme. Bang! Got 'im.

At the moment it is, but unlike a couple of years ago, ITV do not dominate Saturday nights they win. Saturday Night Takeaway used to blow anything it was up against away, but with Doctor Who and new format like Strictly Come Dancing, not any more.

BBC One was watched by more people last year than any other television channel, and is ahead week-by-week so far this year despite ITV's so-called Saturday night "triumphs". So yes, they are winning the ratings.

You can call me and anyone else who likes Doctor Who as a quality sci-fi drama a geek if you like. But 8.2 million people watching a series finale in the sizzling heat of summer? 9.2 million people watching the recent Christmas special, thrashing Emmerdale which was on opposite? That is an awful lot of geeks, isn't it? Those are nothing but excellent ratings, and it IS one of the biggest shows at the moment, whether you like it or not, up there with the soaps and dramas like Waking the Dead.
