Anyone else catch the bit about The Price Is Right? Anyway, William (Fifteen To One) G.Stewart was the producer of the Central/Leslie Crowther version and on the first programme he thought that when they would shout "....COME ON DOWN" they would get it to ryhme for the first contenstant.
This contestant heard this and was shocked so she didn't come down and they had to stop filming.
That was a good Game show, it should come back IMO, problem is the Prizes seem crap when you compare the prize value to WWTBAM.
When it comes to the house party, it's amazing! It was hugely popular with big audiences at the time, yet when you ask people now, it's virtually impossible to find anyone who admits to watching it and thinks it was anything other than awful!
It was good in its early years but went on too long. If Edmonds had stopped a few years earlier he might still have a TV career today.
I agree about bringing House Party back, but on Channel 4's Who Killed Saturday Night TV shown last year, Noel himself admitted that the days of seeing the old classics like Beadle's About, You Bet, and his own show were over, as TV has moved on and we were unlikely to see those classic days again.
Being an 18 year old however, I grew up in the 1990's watching House Party, Gladiators, You Bet etc and it did keep me watching all night long, nowadays I just want to go out as there is nothing on.
Talking of House Party, though this should be in requests, does anyone have a video clip of the opening titles at all perchance?
I don't know if this says more about me or Saturday night TV, but during that Game Show doc. I found myself thinking it's a shame Simply the Best isn't back on ITV this year.
It wasn't brililant (though I think you could have got a decent 60 minute show out of the 90 min episodes) - but certainly preferable to films like Kindengarden Cop.
Simply the Best was a good bit of fun. And having the entertainment acts made it even better. But it was too long, it should have been half an hour long at the most. Plus it suffered from awful presenters. Phil Tufnell was a lousy choice. Kirsty Gallagher was actually quite good, but god knows where they picked up that referee from! He was useless!

Maybe you're asking the 55 million people who didn't watch it?
It was good..for about 1 series. But then Noels head grew to an astronomical size, he began to believe his own hype and as a result he became the annoying, smarmy t*at he is now.
NHP has only been off air 6 years. if it didn't work then, what makes you think it can work now?

The earlier series were great IMO, provided something different to Saturday night TV. The problem was it was rarely changed and Noel believed that the show would go on forever, where it wouldn't. He also believed that the BBC needed him, as he went on strike for a few weeks in 1998, but this didn't last that long as the show was axed a year later in 1999.
He also flogged it to death thanks to Mr Blobby, who did everyone's tits in after a while quite frankly. Don't forget the failed Theme Parks to go with it too.
